Hamilton Sundstrand NP2000 Propellers Flying on C-130 Test Program - Zibb.com

FARNBOROUGH AIR SHOW, FARNBOROUGH, England, July 15 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Hamilton Sundstrand NP2000 propellers, installed on a Wyoming Air National Guard C-130 aircraft, are currently undergoing flight testing for certification on U.S. Air Force and Air National Guard C-130 aircraft. Hamilton Sundstrand is a subsidiary of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX).

The five-month flight test program began in April and is scheduled to conclude in August. Test results to date have shown the NP2000 propellers reduce external and cabin noise and improve performance. Hamilton Sundstrand's NP2000 propeller system has performed successfully in previous flight tests on a Snow Aviation, Inc. C-130E aircraft. The U.S. Navy currently employs the NP2000 on its fleet of E-2C Hawkeye aircraft.

If all flight tests are successful, the eight-bladed NP2000 propeller will be certified for use on existing C-130s, leading to a retrofit program of aircraft flying with the Hamilton Sundstrand 54H60 propeller system. The NP2000 is designed to provide better performance and reliability while reducing fuel consumption, and noise inside and outside the aircraft.

"The Hamilton Sundstrand NP2000 propeller system is ideally suited for the modernization of all C-130 aircraft," said Robert Schechtman, business development manager of Hamilton Sundstrand's propulsion business. "This technology, once certified, will bring many benefits to the users including shorter take-off roll, improved climb, quieter operations, and lower operating and support costs."

With 2007 revenues of $5.6 billion, Hamilton Sundstrand employs approximately 19,000 people worldwide and is headquartered in Windsor Locks, Conn. Among the world's largest suppliers of technologically advanced aerospace and industrial products, the company designs, manufactures and services aerospace systems and provides integrated system solutions for commercial, regional, corporate and military aircraft. It also is a major supplier for international space programs.

United Technologies Corp., based in Hartford, Conn., is a diversified company providing high technology products and services to the building and aerospace industries worldwide.
