Continental Airlines to Sell Ads on Its Site

www.brandweek.com | Nov 11, 2009

Continental Airlines today (Wednesday) signed a deal with Winstar Interactive Media to sell advertising on Continental's Web site. The move by Continental is noteworthy, given that many airline sites—and most ecommerce sites in general—sell little to no third party advertising.

Continental Airlines' BusinessFirst Named Best Business Class in OAG Awards - Zibb.com

Continental Airlines (NYSE: CAL) has won top honors in two categories in the 2009 OAG Airline Industry Awards.

BusinessFirst, Continental's renowned international business-class service, was named "Best Executive/Business Class." The airline previously won this award five years in a row between 2003 and 2007. Continental also won "Best Airline Based in North America" for the sixth consecutive year.

The first aircraft to feature the new seats, a Boeing 777, entered service this month. The airline will install the flat-bed seats on all its Boeing 777, 757-200 and 767-400 aircraft, and on its Boeing 787 fleet as those aircraft are delivered to Continental.

Continental Airlines Receives Top Honors in Business Travel News' Annual Airline Survey - Zibb.com

Continental Airlines (NYSE: CAL) outranked its U.S. network competitors to take top honors in Business Travel News' (BTN) Annual Airline Survey for the second consecutive year. Continental ranked highest in half of the 10 survey categories including quality of airline communications, value of relationships with account managers and sales representatives, problem resolution and flexibility in negotiating transient pricing.

"Even in these tough times, we continue to invest in the product, listen to our buyers and work hard to give them what they want," said Monisa Cline, Continental's staff vice president North America sales. "Our goal is to be the most visible sales team in the industry because we believe that relationships matter."

This is the 12th year that BTN has conducted its Annual Airline Survey that measures corporate travel buyer perceptions of airline performance in negotiating for and delivering service and maintaining preferred relationships. BTN contracted Equation Research to host and tabulate the survey of randomly selected qualified readers. The domestic survey contained a list of the 12 largest domestic airlines as identified by the U.S. Department of Transportation, excluding regional affiliates of major carriers.

Continental Airlines Seeking Chinese Partners - Zibb.com

Continental Airlines Inc. (NYSE:CAL) has taken Air China Ltd. (SHSE: 601111) and Shanghai Airlines Co., Ltd. (SHSE: 600591) as its potential partners for establishment of joint ventures aimed at some international airlines, according to Walter B. Dias, the US air carrier's president for Greater China and Southeast Asia.

Continental Airlines has been operating the direct flights from Beijing and Shanghai to New York, and the US company is also researching the possibility of applying for more Sino-US direct airlines. Upon an agreement between the two governments, China and the US are set to accept three new direct airways from each other in 2010.

The H1N1 influenza hits the Chinese aviation market harder than the global financial storm does, but the pandemic's effects are weakening in the country, said Mr. Dias, expecting the 2010 World Expo in Shanghai to bring more opportunities to his company.

Besides, Continental Airlines lately formed a partnership with some Chinese travel agencies to develop an indirect tourism airline from China to Guam, the nearest US island to China.
