SANTA CLARA, Calif., Nov 09, 2009 (BUSINESS WIRE) --
i365, Inc., A Seagate Company (NASDAQ:STX) and a Microsoft Gold Certified Partner, today announced that it is a Platinum Sponsor of the Microsoft Efficiency Launch. As a platinum sponsor, i365 is partnering with Microsoft to support the introduction of Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 R2 and Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 and communicate the benefits of these new products to its customers. i365's data protection and disaster recovery solutions are optimized for the Microsoft platform and i365 is working closely with Microsoft Corp. to deliver improved performance and enhance a user's ability to navigate, search, visualize and interact with data.
"Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 R2 and Exchange 2010 are significant releases and represent an inflection point for another level of productivity for our on-premise and cloud-based EVault data protection, analytics, and storage customers," said Terry Cunningham, general manager of i365. "Our products capitalize on the new features and functionality in these Microsoft offerings to make it even easier to interact with our solutions and improve performance."
With the explosive growth of business critical data, it has become essential to find new and improved ways to manage, review and interact with data to improve knowledge worker efficiency. As a software developer, this new line of Microsoft products provides i365 with new capabilities for improving the user experience. Features such as touch, gesture and voice recognition capabilities enable i365 customers to more quickly and easily process information and manage applications.
Improving network performance utilization is also of key importance to both i365 and Microsoft customers as data links are of finite bandwidth and represent significant ongoing costs. Improvements in bandwidth management through technologies such as i365's DeltaPro(TM) and Microsoft's BranchCache enable upgraded application designs to improve overall performance and actually save customers money by reducing the associated demand on their IT infrastructures. DeltaPro technology, for example, utilizes block level data deduplication to back up only the changed blocks in the data, not entire files, meaning that less data is moved across the network. This is critical for branch or remote offices that want to centralize backups as well as for cloud-based data protection solutions. Similarly, the BranchCache technology in Windows Server 2008 R2 improves WAN-based application performance. With BranchCache technology, when a file is requested in a branch or remote office location, local servers communicate to determine if the file is already present or a server in the office is designated as a caching machine, so that a locally pre-existing file never has to travel between offices eliminating unnecessary network traffic and improving performance.
"Today's businesses require fast, around-the-clock access to business information," said Eric Jewett, director, Windows Server and Tools Services Division, Microsoft Corp. "Our relationship with i365 provides our joint customers with a streamlined computing experience, giving them the powerful abilities to view, manipulate and analyze their data in a user-friendly way."

SANTA CLARA, Calif., Nov 09, 2009 (BUSINESS WIRE) --
i365, Inc., A Seagate Company (NASDAQ:STX), today announced a collaboration with Microsoft on development of a heterogeneous solution that will allow IT managers to extend Microsoft System Center Data Protection Manager (DPM) 2010 across non-Microsoft platforms and into the cloud, using i365's EVault data protection software and cloud-connected storage solutions infrastructure. The combined solution will be available in several configurations. The first configuration will include an appliance-based backup solution, powered by Seagate(R) technology, which is scheduled for delivery in first half of 2010 with the release to manufacturing of DPM 2010. This collaboration includes both technology and joint go-to-market components.
"System Center Data Protection Manager is seeing greater traction in the data protection and recovery software market as more companies standardize on it to protect their Windows-based environments," said Laura DuBois, IDC's research director for Storage Software. "This partnership is a win-win for both companies, allowing Microsoft customers to benefit from i365's proven technology, expertise and cloud infrastructure to not only extend their data protection across non-Microsoft platforms but also into the cloud for offsite protection."
A growing number of companies are adopting System Center Data Protection Manager as their standard for Windows backup and recovery. Yet many of these companies also run other operating systems and applications for part of their business and want a single solution that extends System Center Data Protection Manager to protect data from both Windows and non-Windows environments. This collaboration will give customers an integrated data protection environment for Windows file servers and applications, as well as other platforms and applications, such as UNIX, Linux, Novell Netware, VMware, IBM i, and Oracle. One integrated solution for all platforms enables IT teams to provide data protection and disaster recovery more efficiently and with less cost. The cloud option automatically brings the data offsite, ensuring business continuity even if a facility is damaged or destroyed.
"Our EVault technology is making cloud-based data protection an important part of disaster recovery initiatives for more customers every day, optimizing the efficiency, security, and flexibility of data transfer over the Internet. Through unique edge appliances, compression, and block level deduplication technology, we deliver the disaster recovery benefits of an offsite backup, without the costs of tapes or transfers of physical media," said George Hoenig, vice president, product operations, at i365. "We are delighted to be able to offer these capabilities to the Microsoft customer base as a part of i365's cloud connected strategy."
The combined solution will also give customers the ability to protect DPM and other data in the cloud -- an attractive complement to onsite backup and recovery. With immediate access to the i365 data protection cloud, DPM customers will benefit from a network of SAS 70 Type II certified, Tier 3 & 4 hosting facilities, WAN optimized backup and recovery, disaster recovery experts and processes, and a 12-year track record protecting data for over 22,000 customers across the globe.
"By working with i365, our customers will be able to extend the protection offered by System Center Data Protection Manager to both Windows infrastructure and applications, but also other platforms within the same environment," said Vij Rajarajan, general manager, Management and Services Division at Microsoft Corp. "As a result, customers will be able to streamline the way they protect heterogeneous data, achieving more with fewer resources."
Microsoft System Center Data Protection Manager is a member of the Microsoft System Center family of management products, designed to help IT Professionals manage their Windows environment. DPM 2010 delivers unified data protection for Windows servers and clients as a best-of-breed backup and recovery solution from Microsoft, for Windows environments. DPM 2010 provides the best protection and most supportable restore scenarios for Windows environments to disk, tape and cloud -- in a scalable, reliable, manageable and cost-effective way.

The League of Arab States, Microsoft Corp. and Khasawneh & Associates (a member of KSLG) have announced the launch of the Arab Intellectual Property Centre, an online portal which will provide a central hub for best practice sharing and legal resources on intellectual property in the Arab region.
The site aims to provide the Arab region with assistance in its efforts to promote the protection of intellectual property by providing a central database on intellectual property and internet crime issues within the region, including an extensive collection of regional laws and regulations, international treaties and agreements and intellectual property case law from around the Middle East region.
The Arab Intellectual Property Centre portal, which is partially funded by investment from Microsoft, is publicly available and can be viewed at http://www.arabipcentre.com/. The site will also be available in Arabic and English.
"Intellectual Property has a significant role to play in the development of knowledge-based economies across the Arab world," commented Mrs. Maha Al Bakheet, Chief, Intellectual Property Unit, Arab League. "It is vital that policy-makers have robust data and guidance on how best to tackle piracy and protect intellectual property, and the Arab Intellectual Property Centre is a vital measure towards this shared objective." The Arab Intellectual Property Centre is part of a broader initiative launched by the Arab League, Microsoft and Khasawneh & Associates to reach beyond industry and law enforcement audiences, to educate schools and students on the value of intellectual property. Recent survey data estimated the software piracy rate at 60 percent, giving an indication of the challenge across the region.
"Software piracy and counterfeiting are damaging the prospects for consumers, businesses and economies across the region. Microsoft is committed to working towards a regional reset on intellectual property," said Dale Waterman, Microsoft's Corporate Attorney for Anti Piracy for the Middle East and Africa region. "The partnership with the Arab League and Khasawneh & Associates is an important step forward." Dina Founes, Microsoft's Legal and Corporate Affairs Director for the Middle East and Africa, added "Together, we are taking a coordinated and comprehensive approach to intellectual property protection, piracy and cybercrime in the region. This is part of Microsoft's continuous efforts to support sustainable economic development across the thriving economies of the Middle East and to help provide a safer IT environment to the public." One of the principal challenges in the region is the lack of shared procedures and cross-border integration. This limits the access of governments, industry and law enforcement agencies to case law, information on the distribution of counterfeit goods, trends, and best practices, which then negatively impacts the ability to enforce intellectual property rights and effectively tackle piracy and cybercrime offenses. "It is only possible to protect intellectual property and halt counterfeiting and piracy by developing a successful partnership between the public and private sectors," added Mr. Nasser Khasawneh, of Khasawneh & Associates. "This website will be an important touch-point for consumers, businesses and governments across the region on this vital issue. We are confident that this Centre will facilitate inter-Arab cooperation in this important field."(C) 2009 Al Bawaba (www.albawaba.com)
