Similarly, the BranchCache technology in Windows Server 2008 R2 improves WAN-based application performance. With BranchCache technology, when a file is requested in a branch or remote office location, local servers communicate to determine if the file is already present or a server in the office is designated as a caching machine, so that a locally pre-existing file never has to travel between offices eliminating unnecessary network traffic and improving performance.
