He, however, declined to divulge the possible price of the car.

Beetle is one of the most successful models that the German carmaker has ever produced.

The car bucked all trends and has made history, although critics had predicted a complete failure due to its peculiar styling, underpowered motor, rough ride and noisy engine.

Volkswagen, which currently sells luxury sedans Passat and Jetta in Indian market, is planning to launch its small car Polo by early next year.

The group has two facilities in India at Aurangabad and Chakan, which assembles cars of its three brands -- Skoda, Audi and Volkswagen.

Los Angeles ' As a result of an outbound operation at the Los Angeles/Long Beach seaport, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials seized a 1965 Volkswagen Bus which was reported stolen in Spokane, Wash., more than 35 years ago.

On October 19, CBP officers assigned to the Los Angeles/Long Beach seaport complex while examining a container scheduled to be exported to the Netherlands discovered the vehicle. After running VIN on a law enforcement database, CBP officers detected that the vehicle had been reported stolen as per the Spokane Police Department in July 12, 1974.

CBP officers contacted state authorities who confirmed that the 1965 Volkswagen Bus case was still open and that the current owner of the car was an insurance company. The vehicle was released to the local authorities who notified the current owner about the seizure.

"This is a unique case that reflects our strategic approach in utilizing the best of intelligence, training and use of information in enforcing laws and regulations at our ports," said Kevin Weeks, CBP director of Field Operations.

The 1965 Volkswagen Bus is in pristine condition and still running.

Sales of other Volkswagen models rose versus October 2008 on the news of the multiple AJAC wins, including Tiguan (+71%) and Passat (+62%). Overall, Volkswagen sales decreased slightly during the month by 3.2% versus the same time period in 2008.

From January to October 2009, Volkswagen has delivered 33,664 new vehicles in Canada, and has gained 40 points of market share versus the same time period in 2008 for a total of 2.7% year-to-date.

The Polo Cup is a part of the German DTM series, which is a premium touring car-racing event here.

"We bring a concept that has been working very well elsewhere to India and we are confident that Volkswagen India Polo Cup would be a huge success," Volkswagen's Board of Management member Dr Jochem Heizmann said here Sunday.

"I am confident that we can raise motorsports in India to a very high level," he added.

Although the scheduling and drivers for the event are yet to be worked out, Heizmann said the cars to be used would be manufactured in India by Volkswagen's Pune factory.
