My four beautiful, fat, funny, friendly heritage turkeys are no more it would seem. I am so bummed. Just last week I posted about their inclination to defy both clipped wings and tall fences and explore the wooded areas beyond our acres of pasture, and it would seem that was their undoing.

The RSPCA has slammed intensive chicken farming and said that millions of birds die every year because they are not able to cope with quick growth pushed on them under the intensive farming. There are 860 million chickens raised in the UK each year and 90% of those are under the 'Red Tractor' logo.

Fields in their fourth year of organic methods (or longer) had greater yields than conventional fields. Soil quality also increased. This seems to be a significant study since the test plots were randomized and controls were well-established.
