3Com, a provider of secure, converged voice and data networking solutions, announced the appointment of Alex Dobson as Vice President and General Manager for North America.
Dobson will focus on increasing 3Com s sales presence and marketing awareness with end users while improving channel effectiveness in the United States and Canada.
North America is a key region in executing 3Com s global strategy, said Ron Sege, 3Com President and COO. As a company, our number one goal is profitable revenue growth and Alex has a long, successful track record of working with channels to win new accounts and serve existing customers. Dobson joins 3Com from BroadSoft, where he was a Vice President, Sales for North America for this provider of VoIP application software. At BroadSoft, he helped the company win key new accounts and increase revenue from existing large customers. Previously, he was Vice President, Business Development for NetMotion Wireless, a provider of mobile productivity software, where he accelerated revenue generation by establishing relationships with strategic partners.
Earlier in his career, he was Senior Vice President, Sales & Marketing for NSGDatacom, a developer of wireline and wireless voice and data products. While there, Dobson created solution selling and marketing programs for key verticals and applications. He joined NSGDatacom when it purchased Advanced Switching Communications, where he had been Vice President, Worldwide Sales.
Dobson also spent 3 years with 3Com in the 1990s in senior sales positions at the company s former USRobotics unit.

3Com, a provider of converged voice and data networking solutions, has appointed Alex Dobson as vice president and general manager for North America. He will focus on increasing the company sales presence and marketing awareness with end users while improving channel effectiveness in the US and Canada.
Mr Dobson joins 3Com from BroadSoft, where he was a vice president of sales for North America for this provider of VoIP application software. Previously, he was vice president of business development for NetMotion Wireless, a provider of mobile productivity software.

June 25, 2008 (FinancialWire) Shares of 3Com (NASDAQ: COMS) (Current Market Cap: US$955.53 Mil.) rose late Tuesday after the network equipment maker posted better-than-expected top-and bottom-line quarterly numbers.
The Massachusetts based company said it had a fiscal fourth-quarter loss of $166.7 million, or 41 cents a share, widening from a loss of $66.2 million, or 17 cents a share, in the year-ago period. Excluding items, 3Com said it had a profit of 9 cents a share, ahead of analyst's average estimate of 5 cents a share.
Shares of 3Com rose 8% in late trading to $2.51.
The company's stock has dropped 47% in what has been a roller coaster 2008, as an agreement to take the company private was initially denied US government approval before being retooled and then ultimately dropped in March.
