MAHWAH, N.J., Nov 09, 2009 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX/ --
Seven months after acquiring the Nortel-Alteon application delivery product line, Radware (Nasdaq: RDWR), the leading provider of integrated application delivery solutions for business-smart networking, today brought back the strength and endurance of the Alteon(R) line by unveiling the new, powerful Alteon 5412 application delivery platform.
Delivering on its promise to develop the Alteon product and provide customers with a new and improved application delivery solution, Radware unleashes the Alteon 5412 - to drive performance, productivity, and meet customers' current and next-generation data center network and application needs.
"Radware is building a bank of goodwill with Alteon customers and partners by restoring the Alteon brand and advancing the product line with the introduction of the 5412," said Lucinda Borovick, Research Vice President - Datacenter Networks, IDC. "Offering platform longevity with a 5-year support program, Radware Alteon customers can reduce capital and operational expenditures, making the 5412 a credible long-term application delivery option for global enterprises."
The Alteon 5412 delivers optimal business value by helping customers reduce capital expenditures and capacity planning risks as well as eliminate application delivery overspending by providing capacity and service scalability based on a "pay-as-you-grow" model. Radware Alteon customers can reduce operational expenditures as the Alteon 5412 offers hassle-free upgrades with no downtime or need to restart the device. The product runs the same Alteon OS as previous models; thereby offering Alteon customers smooth migration to the new platform with the same proven operational simplicity and stability, without any risk or learning curve for integration into the data center environment.
A technologically-advanced application delivery platform, the Alteon 5412 offers high performance, delivers maximum productivity and ensures operational simplicity.
Key technology advancements include:
-- Performance: The Alteon 5412 offers faster response times and support
for high-end environments delivering up to 20Gbps of application
switching throughput capacity and up to 340,000 Layer 4 transactions per
second (TPS). The system also offers four 10 Gigabit Ethernet (GE) ports
and 12 GE ports, enabling customers to process the highest network
traffic capacities required by high-end data center environments.
-- Carrier-Grade Reliability: The new Alteon 5412 delivers carrier-grade
reliability required by the most demanding carrier high-end enterprise
application environments. It features custom-made hardware coupled with
embedded components providing high MTBF - in addition to being
NEBS-ready. It also ships with dual power supply configurations and
redundant out-of-band management ports, complies with the strictest
regulations, and is certified across hardware and networking standards.
-- Best User Experience: Alteon 5412's unique Virtual Matrix Architecture
(VMA) is flexible and optimized distributed processing software
architecture. It creates a virtual matrix of memory and processor
resources across the switch that can be used to process traffic from any
port at any time, allowing faster layer 4-7 processing capabilities.
"Radware is committed to investing in the Alteon product line, and executing on a plan to ensure long-term growth and support for our Radware-Alteon customers," said Ilan Kinreich, Chief Operating Officer, Radware. "For years, customers have found success with Alteon application switches and our goal is to build on this momentum and evolve the product to deliver an optimal user experience."
After acquiring the Alteon assets on the 31st of March 2009, Radware made a steadfast commitment to ensure the Alteon product line would remain a viable product offering in the Company's vision. Radware placed significant investment and development into the existing Alteon line, preparing a multi-year product roadmap - where the Alteon 5412 is the first new product to come-to-market. To accomplish this, Radware increased its resources in R&D and QA engineering teams as well as technical services; adding approximately 120 people - solely dedicated to the Alteon product family.
Building on the longevity and support for the Alteon line, Radware has incorporated the product family into its Business Smart Data Center solutions and strategy. The Alteon 5412 embeds Radware's On Demand infrastructure approach; ensuring Alteon customers can gain throughput and service scalability - based on business demand.
Unleashing 'Alteon'
Today, Radware also unveiled 'Alteon is Back' -- a targeted marketing initiative to revitalize the Alteon brand by bringing back a superhero character metaphor, first introduced by Alteon WebSystems (later acquired by Nortel).
As the centerpiece of the campaign, Alteon's appearance personifies the strengths and evolution of the new, powerful Alteon product line, as he combats his evil network archenemies, Bottleneck, Outage, Disconnect, and Disarray - from their destructive network rampage. This sinister IT world, plagued with darkness, has slowed down application networking performance - requiring a hero to be summoned to fight network downtime and deliver super fast performance to the online world. This hero must be brave, powerful, and highly skilled... this hero must be Alteon.
A compelling storyline of a superhero reborn, as the onset, Radware uses a cinematic trailer and a 3-D graphic animated episode to tell the Alteon's story. Alteon supporters are encouraged to engage in the brand experience by visiting the 'Alteon is Back' portal to additionally download wallpapers, screensavers and other extras. The campaign will continue through 2010. Visit: http://www.alteonisback.com.
