Aluminum Corporation of China to Build Copper Plate Factory in Yunnan Province, an Industrial Info

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas) -- The Aluminum Corporation of China Limited (NYSE:ACH) (Chalco) (Beijing) has laid the foundation of a copper processing factory in southern Yunnan Province. Xiao Yaqing, General Manager of Chalco, hosted the ceremony on August 19 in the Qidian Industrial Park in the city of Kunming, the capital of Yunnan. The factory is designed to produce 100,000 tons of copper strips and sheets and 200,000 tons of copper rods annually and will cost Chalco around $289.9 million ($1 = 6.9RMB). Chalco did not give an expected completion date.

STOCK ALERT - Resource stocks tumble in HK after big drop in commodity prices - Zibb.com

Resource stocks were sharply lower after a general drop in commodity prices overnight.

At 11:12, Angang Steel was down 1.10 hkd or 7.50 pct at 13.56, Aluminum Corp of China (Chalco) was down 0.39 hkd or 5.26 pct at 7.02, and Jiangxi Copper was down 0.66 hkd or 4.84 pct at 12.98.

Among gold producers, Zijin Mining was down 0.49 hkd or 8.14 pct at 5.53, Zhaojin Mining was down 0.55 hkd or 6.29 pct at 8.20 and Lingbao Gold was down 0.14 hkd or 5.22 pct at 2.54.

Commodities fell sharply overnight as another big drop in crude prices prompted traders to sell down other commodities such as copper and other hard assets.

Crude oil prices retreated on fears that energy demand will shrink as the global economy slows.

In Asian trade this morning, New York's main contract, light sweet crude for September delivery, fell another 1.07 usd to 120.34 a barrel. It fell 3.69 usd to settle at 121.41 in New York floor trading last night.

STOCK ALER - Chalco, cement firms lower in Hong Kong on Goldman Sachs downgrades - Zibb.com

Aluminum Corp of China Ltd (Chalco) was lower in Hong Kong after Goldman Sachs downgraded it to "neutral" from "buy".

At late morning, Chalco shares were down 0.24 hkd or 2.76 pct at 8.45.

Goldman Sachs also cut its target price on Chalco to 11 hkd from 17 hkd. It cited cost pressures and the aluminum sector's poor profitability.

The brokerage downgraded cement companies Anhui Conch and China National Building Material to "sell" from "neutral".

It reduced Anhui Conch's target price to 43 hkd from 48, and cut China National Building Material's target to 14 hkd from 22.

"We see earnings risks for cement, zinc and gold due to upstream coal, power and labor cost pressures with demand profiles deteriorating," the brokerage said.

China National Building Material was off 0.54 hkd or 3.52 pct at 14.8, and Anhui Conch was down 1.4 hkd or 3.05 pct at 44.45.
