The 2009 WIRED Store Debuts This Weekend -- Presented by American Express and Chevy - Zibb.com

WIRED magazine today announced that American Express (www.americanexpress.com) and Chevy (chevy.com/camaro) are presenting sponsors of the WIRED Store, the magazine's fifth annual marquee gallery-meets-retail experience. A launching pad for new technology and cutting-edge products as well as a showcase for inspired programming, the WIRED Store brings the varied and vibrant pages of WIRED to life. The WIRED Store, which serves as THE holiday destination for the WIRED set, will open its doors for six weeks this holiday season.

For the first time this year, the WIRED Store will feature a creative collaboration with international recording artist Moby. On a one-of-a-kind interactive mural, Moby combines his playful artwork with cutting-edge electric paint that comes to life when touched. This is a breakthrough technology that uses conductive inks to replace wires, heat sources, speakers, lights, power sources, switches, buttons and sensors, making technology as thin and virtually weightless as a layer of ink. Moby will also perform a special DJ set at the opening night party on November 20, 2009.

This year's WIRED Store will also debut the One WIRED Wish program, featuring celebrities such as Dave Eggers, Arianna Huffington, Joel McHale, Rachel Zoe, Molly Sims, Yves Behar, Mischa Barton and others sharing their One WIRED Wish for the holidays -- from the latest e-reader to ocean preservation. WIRED Store visitors can enter their One WIRED Wish for the holidays at wired.com/wiredstore to be automatically entered to win a $10,000 prize package from the WIRED Store.

The all new Chevy Camaro will be showcased at the WIRED Store. It was developed by an international team of designers and engineers with concept-car styling, the latest technology, and a 304 HP V6 with an EPA estimated 29 MPG highway.

"We're excited to partner with American Express and Chevy Camaro at this year's WIRED Store," said Howard Mittman, Publisher of WIRED. "Working with these cutting-edge brands helps us showcase the latest in design, innovation, and smart products, all in an interactive gallery-like environment."

The WIRED Store will feature more products than ever before -- more than 250 items, including the latest televisions, computers (including Acer's new 3D laptop), cell phones, active gear, home goods, clothing, children's toys and games, the Camaro, an electric motorcycle, a custom made WIRED Trek Bike and more. In addition, the WIRED Store will host a range of events weekly, including chef demos and wine tastings in the WIRED Cafe, Geek Dad Saturdays, Game Day Sundays, a green section curated by Adrian Grenier and Peter Glatzer of SHFT.COM, and a gaming area curated by professional skateboarder Tony Hawk. WIRED Store visitors are invited to test products, attend events, and purchase featured products online at http://www.wired.com/wiredstore beginning November 21, 2009.

The WIRED Store is located at 415 West 13th Street, between 9th Avenue and Washington Street in Manhattan's Meatpacking/Highline District. The Store will be open to the public from November 21, 2009 through December 27, 2009, from 12pm to 9pm Wednesdays through Sundays (the Store is closed Mondays and Tuesdays, as well as Thanksgiving and Christmas Day).

WIRED Store partners include: Acer, Activision, Alessi, Andrew Marc, Areaware, AriZona, Asus, BBC, Beck's, Behance LLC, Biomorph, Bluelounge, Built, Bulova, Cafe Bustelo, Delta Faucet, DNA 11/Canvaspop, Dolby Laboratories, Dynamism, Dyson, eBay, Epilog Laser, Eye-Fi, Inc., Glenfiddich, IBM Lotus, Incase, iGo, Kapitall, KarmaLoop, Kicker, Koncept, LG, MSI Computer Corp., Nero, Nokia, Nordic Track, OWLE, Phiaton, Pong Research, Powermat, Rabbit Air, Samsung Electronics, Sleek Audio, Sony, SPOT LLC , Sprint, Surefire (ICON), The Conran Shop, The North Face, ThinkGeek, Tide, Tissot, T-Mobile, Tony Hawk, Vizio, and YouRenew.com

American Express Buying Revolution Money - Zibb.com

American Express Company announced it has agreed to acquire Revolution Money, a Revolution company.

American Express explained that Revolution Money, launched by AOL Co-founder Steve Case's Revolution in 2007, provides secure payments through an internet based platform. No names or account numbers appear on Revolution cards and transactions are authorized by using a PIN number. The company's online person-to-person payment accounts are FDIC insured and ideally suited for social and instant messaging networks. It also offers a prepaid card linked to those accounts that can be used for offline payments or to withdraw cash from ATMs throughout the United States.

"New payments products and platforms are evolving rapidly and it's important for us to keep identifying cutting edge technologies that can extend our leadership beyond the traditional payments arena," said Kenneth I. Chenault, chairman and chief executive officer of American Express. "While Revolution Money is a young and relatively small company, we believe it has big potential. This is a smart, nimble business. It's run by an accomplished management team who have quickly developed some cutting edge e-payment offerings. Joining with American Express will help unlock their potential, while allowing us to deliver competitive online payment products more rapidly and efficiently.

"Revolution Money has a lot of room to grow as it competes head-to-head with other online and person-to-person payment providers. We are committed to using our global brand recognition, marketing reach and network expertise to help reach a critical mass of customers."

Jason Hogg, founder and chief executive officer of Revolution Money, will continue as president and chief executive officer. Ted Leonsis, a Revolution Money angel investor, major shareholder and chairman, will become a special advisor to American Express working with Chenault on overall digital and online payments strategy.

"We have built a next-generation payments platform that will enable American Express to compete even more effectively, especially against online competitors," said Leonsis. "Revolution Money's technology brings together the online and offline worlds in a way that can transform the way consumers securely transact. And with the low cost structure enabled by internet technology, American Express is now even better positioned to scale their online presence over time."

"Since our inception our sole goal has been to build a payments platform that can help transform the industry," said Hogg. "Becoming part of American Express will enable us to reach that goal by scaling our technology and business and providing even greater consumer benefits. I, and the Revolution Money employees who helped build our company, are honored to be joining the American Express family and we are excited about what the future holds."

The transaction, which is subject to regulatory review, is expected to close in the first quarter of 2010. The purchase price is expected to be approximately $300 million. Upon closing, Revolution Money would operate as a subsidiary of American Express and be the first component of its recently formed Enterprise Growth organization. Enterprise Growth was formed to leverage American Express' existing assets and capabilities to generate incremental fee revenue and to drive the company's entry into new payment areas and related businesses.
