Renowned Litigation Consultant Tom O'Connor Initiates docNative Paradigm Blog - Zibb.com
SAN DIEGO, and NEW ORLEANS, Oct 29, 2008 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ --
Anacomp(R) Inc., a leading business process solutions company, and the Legal Electronic Document Institute (LEDI), a non-profit corporation promoting the development of education and standards for electronic legal documents, today jointly announced a new weblog, or blog, dedicated to identifying trends, technologies and best practices in the electronic discovery realm. The blog is led by Tom O'Connor, the Director of LEDI and a nationally known consultant, speaker and writer in the realm of computerized litigation support systems. The blog will focus on how Anacomp's docNative(TM) Paradigm approach to eDiscovery can be leveraged by law firms and corporate counsel departments to expedite and accelerate litigation review processes. The blog will be updated weekly on Wednesdays and is available at http://www.anacomp.com/clx/docnativeblog.aspx.
Anacomp's docNative Paradigm approach to eDiscovery emphasizes native file review, empowering users to view hundreds of file types, including audio and video, without the need of third party file conversions or applications. By managing documents in their native or near-native formats, the "TIFFing" conversion step can be skipped until the end of the discovery process, and only then as needed to format documents that are relevant and required for production. As such, users can greatly accelerate review, dramatically cut processing costs and reduce associated risks. In addition, this native file review approach supports compliance with new Federal Rules of Civil Procedure (FRCP) around electronically stored information (ESI). Anacomp's docNative Paradigm also empowers the ability to manage images such as TIFFS, so hybrid format environments of TIFFS, near-native, and native files are seamless to the user.
"I look forward to not only sharing my interpretation of the rapidly changing litigation processing environment, but also for my blog to serve as a place for litigation support professionals to learn how to leverage emerging technologies and share successes and best practices," said Mr. O'Connor. "I will also explore how legal teams are leveraging the docNative paradigm to quickly collect, organize, review and produce digital evidence to streamline litigation processes. The docNative Paradigm supports the direction the litigation realm is rapidly heading and is a central aspect of the ongoing evolution of litigation support solutions."
"Anacomp is pleased to leverage Tom's deep domain expertise and experience to help litigation professionals wade through the myriad changes within the eDiscovery space, and to advise them as to how to take advantage of native file review to reduce, eliminate or postpone antiquated review processes such as Bates numbering and TIFFing where applicable," said Wayne Ford, Anacomp's Senior Vice President of Marketing, Channels and Strategic Alliances. "We are seeing the litigation market quickly adopting new processes and technologies. This blog serves as another example of how Anacomp and LEDI are delivering guidance and thought leadership in an industry that is rapidly evolving and where obsolete litigation processing methods are rapidly being replaced by cost-effective solutions."
Throughout his career, Mr. O'Connor's work with public and private law firms on large, complex cases has led him to become adept with many litigation support applications. A frequent lecturer on the subject of legal technology, Mr. O'Connor has taught college courses and has been on the faculty of numerous national CLE providers. He is currently a member of the American Bar Foundation and former member of the Governing Council of the Law Practice Management Section of the American Bar Association. Mr. O'Connor has also been the editor of several legal newsletters and authored "The Automated Law Firm," a guide to computer systems and software, and "The Lawyers Guide to Summation." He is also a member of the Advisory Board of Law Technology News.

Anacomp Integrates Syngence SynthetixND(TM) Near-Duplicate Grouping Technology and Synthetix(R)
DALLAS and SEATTLE, Oct 10, 2008 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ --
Syngence Corporation, an industry leader in e-discovery and content analytics solutions, and Anacomp, a leading business process solutions company, today announced that CaseLogistix(R), Anacomp's flagship litigation support solution, now includes Syngence's Synthetix(R) and SynthetixND(TM) technology to permit faster, more consistent reviews of discovery records.
"By integrating Syngence's technologies with CaseLogistix, we will empower legal teams to streamline e-discovery and review processes, increase efficiency, reduce costs and minimize risks," said John Turner, Anacomp's chief technical officer. "This deep technical integration strengthens our alliance with Syngence, and will greatly benefit our mutual customers by delivering greater value and solving their complex litigation challenges."
Syngence President Steve McNew notes, "This integration has already been implemented in a major case by an AmLaw 100 law firm. The law firm wished to augment the already-powerful search, tagging and workflow functionality of CaseLogistix with Syngence's near-duplicate grouping and linguistic pattern searching capabilities. As a result, this firm was able to review a large, time-sensitive matter in far less time and be more consistent in their decision making."
Syngence technology permits faster and more consistent review of discovery records. SynthetixND(TM) identifies and groups similar documents reducing review time while increasing the accuracy of privilege or responsiveness reviews. Synthetix Search(R) compares the linguistic patterns of selected text with every page in a document collection and returns highly accurate results with ranked relevancy.
Synthetix Search(TM) users can identify and monitor selected or hypothetical text within millions of pages of structured and unstructured data. Whether users engage Synthetix Search for one-time use or to continuously monitor a company's data in real-time, queries produce thorough results that are immune to misspellings, OCR errors and other variances.
CaseLogistix allows legal teams to quickly collect, organize, review and produce any amount of digital evidence using an interface similar to that of Microsoft(R) Outlook(R). The system is fully Unicode compliant and able to recognize all foreign language character sets. Such capabilities offer strong differentiation over other litigation support solutions on the market, and are highly desirable among larger, multi-national law firms and general counsel departments.
CaseLogistix's innovative docNative(TM) paradigm approach to e-discovery emphasizes native file review, empowering users to view hundreds of file types, including audio and video, without the need of third-party file conversions or applications. By managing documents in their native or near-native formats, the "TIFFing" conversion step can be skipped until the end of the discovery process, and only then as needed to format documents that are relevant and required for production. This allows users to greatly accelerate review, cut processing costs in half and reduce associated risks. This native file review approach also supports compliance with new Federal Rules of Civil Procedure (FRCP) for electronically stored information (ESI).
About Syngence Corporation
Syngence provides powerful, scalable content analytics solutions that help leading law firms and corporate legal departments quickly gain insight from the documents and electronic files they manage. The company's flagship offering is the Synthetix Processing Suite (SPS(TM)), a complete system to identify and organize unstructured data, distill it to its essence by identifying redundant information, and enable intuitive, precise search on the critical documents that remain.
