ArvinMeritor Stays in Neutral - Zibb.com

ArvinMeritor, Inc. (ARM) has earned a leading position in most of the markets it serves. Presently, the company is planning to spin off its Light Vehicle Systems (LVS) business. The company is undergoing dramatic cost reductions through its profit improvement initiative 'Performance Plus.' It is also expanding geographically and outsourcing to low-cost countries. However, difficult conditions in North American and West European automotive markets are primary concerns for the company. Downturn in the auto industry, which took automakers such as General Motors Corporation (GM) on the verge of bankruptcy, makes us apprehensive about the near term prospects for auto suppliers such as ARM.Production cuts, coupled with rising steel and fuel prices, lead us to rate the shares a Hold with a target price of $3.00.Read the full analyst report on ARM.Read the full analyst report on GM.

Automobile Equipment Manufacturer ArvinMeritor to Sell Light Vehicles Segment, an Industrial Info

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas) -- ArvinMeritor (NYSE:ARM) (Troy, Michigan), a global automobile equipment manufacturer, announced its fourth quarter and fiscal year 2008 earnings on November 18. For the year, sales were $7.17 billion, compared with $6.45 billion in 2007. The sales increase was largely from increased sales outside of the North American market, particularly in the company's commercial vehicle systems sector, which manufactures trucks, trailers, buses, military and other vehicles not intended for domestic use. ArvinMeritor additionally announced that the company intends to sell the entire light vehicles segment of the business, with the exception of the wheels-manufacturing portion.

ArvinMeritor to cut 1,250 jobs - Zibb.com

ArvinMeritor, a supplier of integrated systems and components to the automotive industry, has announced that it is reducing its global workforce by 1,250 employees or approximately 7%, which is comprised of 450 salaried and 800 hourly positions, in response to the current weakness in global business conditions.

ArvinMeritor is responding aggressively to the current weakness in global business conditions by executing comprehensive restructuring and cost-reduction initiatives. In addition, it is exploring strategic alternatives to the spin-off of its light vehicle systems business group.

The company said that it has accelerated restructuring actions, including workforce and discretionary cost reductions to achieve an expected $125 million in annualized savings in 2009.

The new cost reduction actions are additional to those the company executed over the past four years. During this period, the company consolidated 17 of its North American and European manufacturing facilities, divested non-core businesses, reduced its global workforce by approximately 4,000 and implemented a business transformation program.

Chip McClure, chairman, CEO and president of ArvinMeritor, said: "Swift and decisive actions are necessary in response to today's global economic conditions, which include softness in all markets in which we participate, as well as weaker foreign currencies."
