Encore Packs for the Guitar Hero(R) Air Guitar(R) Rocker(TM) Available in August - Zibb.com
CITY OF INDUSTRY, CA, Jul 21, 2008 (MARKET WIRE via COMTEX) --
Jada Toys, Inc. announces the release of its first wave of Encore Packs for the Guitar Hero(R) Air Guitar(R) Rocker(TM), the officially licensed Guitar Hero toy that marries the runaway success of the video game franchise by Activision (NASDAQ: ATVI) and the air guitar phenomenon. The two new Encore Packs, 80's Rock and Heavy Metal, each featuring 10 songs, will be packaged with a stylized designer buckle. The packs will work in conjunction with the existing Guitar Hero(R) Air Guitar(R) Rocker(TM), enabling the user to expand their music library and collection of the genre specific buckles.
"The new Encore Packs take the fantasy of being a Rock Star to the next level," said May Li, President of Jada Toys. "The new tracks chosen for the Encore Pack are the top songs of their respective genres, are more challenging and more fun!"
The 80's Rock Encore pack will feature licensed hits "I Wanna Rock," "Round and Round," "Nothin' But A Good Time," "Cherry Pie," "Play with Me," and 5 Original freestyle riffs. The Heavy Metal Encore Pack will feature songs "Bark at the Moon," "Symphony of Destruction," "Mother," "You've Got Another Thing Comin," "Thunder Kiss 65," and 5 original freestyle riffs.
The interactive buckles reflect the style of music of each Air Cartridge. The Heavy Metal buckle features Guitar Hero(R) character Lars Umlaut set in relief against chrome while the 80's Rock buckle features iconic symbols, scorpions, and lighting bolts from the decade of big hair.
"We wanted each buckle to echo the type of music on the Air Cartridges," said Brandon Giraldez, Director of Toy Design. "Lars is the epitome of a Heavy Metal Rocker so we had to have him on one of the buckles... when you look at the design of the 80's buckle, the motifs, lightening and scorpions, are icons of that decade."
The Encore Packs will be available at Wal-Mart, Toys "R" Us, Best Buy and other retailers nationwide, starting August 1st, with a suggested retail price of $14.99 per pack. Additional waves of Encore Packs are currently in development.

Carphone Warehouse sells 50 pct of retail to Best Buy for 1.1 bln pounds UPDATE - Zibb.com
LONDON, May 08, 2008 (Thomson Financial via COMTEX) --
Carphone Warehouse Group PLC. said it will sell 50 percent of its retail operations to U.S. joint venture partner Best Buy Co Inc. for 1.1 bln pounds cash and they will form a new company with each owning a 50 percent stake.
The new company will comprise Carphone's existing retail business, which operates under the Carphone Warehouse and Phone House brands in nine European countries, as well as the group's share of its existing relationship with Best Buy.
A joint venture between Carphone Warehouse and Best Buy set up in 2006 has been rolling out mobile retail stores under the Best Buy mobile brand in the U.S., and Best Buy bought a 3 percent stake in Carphone Warehouse in September last year.
The new company will roll out Best Buy stores in certain European markets from 2009, and will also expand the existing Carphone Warehouse retail footprint in Europe.
The new venture would also have a long-term commercial agreement with The Carphone Warehouse's fixed line division in the U.K.
Carphone Warehouse will retain its fixed line telecoms business in the U.K., comprising TalkTalk, AOL Broadband and Opal, as well as its share of the Virgin Mobile France joint venture.
The company will use the proceeds of the sale to pay down its debt, invest in broadband customer growth and invest in "new areas of growth presented by the transaction."
Carphone Warehouse expects the transaction to be dilutive to earnings per share by 10 percent to 15 percent in the year to March 2009.
The transaction is expected to close during Best Buy's second quarter, which ends on August 30 2008, and is subject to approval by Carphone Warehouse shareholders.
Best Buy is expected to fund the acquisition through a combination of cash on hand, existing bank lines and other new borrowing.

Best Buy's ratings affirmed after acquisition announcement - Fitch - Zibb.com
MUMBAI, May 08, 2008 (Thomson Financial via COMTEX) --
Fitch Ratings said it has affirmed Best Buy Co. Inc.'s 'BBB+' issuer default rating (IDR) after the U.S.-based electronics retailer said it will acquire 50 percent of cell phone retailer The Carphone Warehouse Group Plc.'s European and U.S. retail interests for 1.1 billion pounds through the creation of a venture between Best Buy and The Carphone Warehouse.
Fitch also affirmed Best Buy's 'BBB+' bank credit facility rating and 'BBB' convertible subordinated debentures rating.
Best Buy's acquisition is being funded through a combination of cash on hand, existing bank lines and other new borrowings.
While Fitch expects the acquisition to increase Best Buy's leverage, the company's solid operating performance, driven by Best Buy's leadership in the consumer electronics sector, should result in credit metrics improving over time.
The ratings continue to reflect Best Buy's leading market position and successful customer-driven operating strategy, which have differentiated the company from its competitors and produced solid operating results, Fitch said. TFN.newsdesk@thomson.com ans

Best Buy joins forces with Carphone Warehouse - Zibb.com
May 08, 2008 (Datamonitor via COMTEX) --
US electricals retailer Best Buy has bought a 50% stake in Carphone Warehouse's retail business. While Verdict Research believes that there is an opportunity for Best Buy to succeed, success is by no means assured in what is an extremely competitive marketplace.
Over the last two years, Carphone Warehouse and US consumer electricals market leader Best Buy have been working together on a number of projects. Carphone Warehouse first helped Best Buy to introduce specialist mobile phone centers into its stores, and later, Best Buy's service proposition, Geek Squad, was launched in Europe in conjunction with Carphone Warehouse.
Best Buy plans to take advantage of the high growth European consumer electronics sector. In particular, the ongoing convergence of digital technology in the home will be an area of focus, and it hopes to launch Best Buy stores across a number of European markets. The ongoing European expansion of Carphone's existing operations will also continue.
Verdict Research believes that there is scope for a retailer to capitalize on the potential offered by digital convergence. Many consumers - with the exception of the technologically minded few - are likely to value a coherent proposition aimed at providing a one-stop shop that will provide for all their needs in this area.
However, Best Buy is not the only retailer to have recognized this requirement. DSGi is focusing on its UK TechGuys service proposition and Verdict believes that it is likely to rollout this concept across Europe, in one form or another. Verdict also expects other key European players to follow suit. Furthermore, existing players also have the advantage of having ready-made store portfolios to work with.
However, larger incumbent players are mainly electricals generalists offering everything from PCs to toasters. Inevitably, this means that, unless a store is expertly segmented, it can be difficult to showcase and provide quality service to customers looking to purchase new digital technology.
If it focuses solely on consumer electronics, Best Buy will be able to present a coherent offer and provide specialist service on issues surrounding digital convergence, home networks and wireless broadband. This type of store could not only entice younger shoppers who are looking for deep ranges, but also older shoppers who are attracted by strong service credentials.
All that said, it will not be easy. Execution will be key, and Best Buy must avoid the temptation to broaden ranges beyond the remit of consumer electronics and digital technology. Furthermore, the European electricals market is highly competitive, extremely consolidated and operates on very low margins. While Verdict believes that there is room for Best Buy in this market, success is by no means guaranteed.
