DreamWorks Studios Options Rights to Platinum Studios' ''Atlantis Rising'' - Zibb.com

DreamWorks Studios has optioned the rights to make a feature film from Platinum Studios Inc.'s (OTCBB:PDOS) comic book "Atlantis Rising," it was announced today by Adam Goodman, President of Production for DreamWorks Studios.

Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, who brought the project to the studio, will produce through their DreamWorks based company. Platinum Studios' Chairman and CEO, Scott Mitchell Rosenberg, will also produce. The Greenberg Group CEO and former Universal Pictures senior executive Randy Greenberg will executive produce and Platinum Studios' Rich Marincic will co-produce.

Created by Scott Mitchell Rosenberg, "Atlantis Rising" is a five-part mini series first published by Platinum Studios Comics in November of 2007. The fifth and final installment in the series is due on comic book shelves in late April 2008.

In "Atlantis Rising," seismic disturbances at sea force world militaries to investigate the deepest part of our ocean, where an underground civilization emerges to do war with planet Earth.

"Atlantis Rising" marks the second property that DreamWorks has optioned from Platinum Studios. DreamWorks, along with Universal Studios, optioned the rights to "Cowboys and Aliens" last year and is currently developing the sci-fi western adventure along with Kurtzman and Orci and Imagine Entertainment.

"We are excited about bringing audiences into the vast mysterious world of the ocean's depths for what we hope will be an edge-of-your seat experience," said Adam Goodman, DreamWorks' President of Production. "Our team at DreamWorks looks forward to this new association with Platinum Studios, and Kurtzman and Orci."

"Atlantis Rising is a provocative sci-fi thriller that at its core echoes the global debate on our impact to the environment," said Rosenberg. "To again be working with the creative duo of DreamWorks and Kurtzman/Orci, I believe will give the project a bold and enthralling take on this classic myth."

"No sea horses or tridents here," said producers Kurtzman and Orci. "The comic brings a fresh, techno-thriller approach to a story that holds all the tenets of a classic us-versus-them alien invasion movie."

Kurtzman and Orci currently have an overall producing deal with DreamWorks Studios. They are currently producing the action thriller "Eagle Eye" for DreamWorks which will be released in theaters this September. They have also written several screenplays for DreamWorks projects, including "Transformers" and "The Island," and are currently at work on "Transformers 2." Among their other writing credits are "Mission: Impossible III," "The Legend of Zorro," and next year's "Star Trek," which they are also executive producing. They also served as producers and writers on the hit TV series, "Alias," and are executive producing the action/drama "Fringe" which is scheduled to debut on Fox in the fall.

About DreamWorks Studios

DreamWorks Studios was formed in 1994 by Steven Spielberg, Jeffrey Katzenberg, and David Geffen. The company won three consecutive Best Picture Academy Awards with "American Beauty," "Gladiator," and "A Beautiful Mind" (both co-produced with Universal). Among the company's other successes have been such films as "Saving Private Ryan" (co-produced with Paramount), "The Ring," "Minority Report" (co-produced with 20th Century Fox), "War of the Worlds," "Dreamgirls," and "Transformers" (all co-produced with Paramount). Among its upcoming productions are "The Ruins," "Tropic Thunder," "Eagle Eye," "Ghost Town," and "Revolutionary Road."

Join The 'Kung Fu Panda' Party at McDonald's(R) - Zibb.com

Celebrating the debut of McDonald's "Kung Fu Panda" Happy Meal promotion, McDonald's, DreamWorks Animation SKG, Inc. (NYSE: DWA) and Conservation International are creating Panda-mania worldwide by inviting kids and families to a one-of-a-kind "Kung Fu Panda" party.

Beginning June 6 through July 3 at McDonald's restaurants in North America, and then rolling out across the globe, McDonald's "Kung Fu Panda" Happy Meal program features exclusive characters from DreamWorks Animation's upcoming "Kung Fu Panda" film. McDonald's young guests will receive one of eight "Kung Fu Panda" toys with the purchase of a Happy Meal at participating McDonald's restaurants, while supplies last. The eight action characters include Po the Panda, Master Shifu, snow leopard Tai Lung and the Furious Five, Tigress, Crane, Mantis, Viper and Monkey, all of which bring the movie's Kung Fu awesomeness and bodacious humor to life for kids and collectors.

Fun Continues Online

McDonald's continues the fun online at http://www.happymeal.com to encourage kids to get active and learn more about pandas and their environment. Fun panda animal facts are provided through the company's long- time alliance with Conservation International (CI). The online "Kung Fu Panda" party also offers kids the chance to become the ultimate Kung Fu master with online games, energetic offline activities and Kung Fu dance demonstrations.

"The McDonald's 'Kung Fu Panda' Happy Meal event is all about having fun," said Kathy Pyle, senior director of marketing, McDonald's USA. "We are excited to give kids the opportunity to recreate the adventures of Po and the Furious Five not only with this unique collection of Happy Meal toys, but by providing kids with an awesome online experience that is both entertaining and energizing."

Just as Po the Panda goes on his own quest for empowerment in the film, McDonald's guests can experience their own Kung Fu action-packed epic adventure at http://www.happymeal.com. McDonald's online "Kung Fu Panda" party invites kids to kick up an adventure with Po the Panda and the Furious Five; try out the new hip-hop panda dance; send their friends a custom Pandagram; take the Kung Fu Challenge; and get their names on the Wall of Awesomeness. The Kung Fu Panda-themed Happy Meal box, Apple Dippers and low fat Milk Jugs, as well as restaurant trayliners each feature digital codes that unlock new moves in the You Kung Fu online activity that allows kids to upload their own photo and practice Kung Fu with Po the Panda.

Environmental Message on Pandas with Conservation International

In addition, kids can learn about pandas and how McDonald's and Conservation International have joined together to protect panda habitats. The site offers a place to see pandas in the wild via a special "panda-cam" where kids can view real pandas in their actual habitat.

"Not only is the panda China's national symbol, but it's one of our planet's most beloved animals, yet few realize that less than 1,600 are left in the wild," said Peter Seligmann, chief executive officer and chairman, CI. "That's why we're pleased to align with a leadership company like McDonald's who is not only supporting our work to protect pandas, but helping us deliver this important message in a unique way to inspire and empower the next generation of conservation leaders to take action to protect our environment."

McDonald's is helping to make a difference by supporting CI projects in China that are working to protect panda habitats.

The "Kung Fu Panda" online party will be available in English on June 6 and will roll out around the world in 12 languages as the film is released throughout the year.

Characters Showcase Food Choices

McDonald's North American customers can also enjoy additional "Kung Fu Panda" food choices with their Happy Meals, including themed Apple Dippers (fresh, peeled apple slices) served with low-fat caramel dipping sauce, and low-fat white Milk Jugs and chocolate Milk Jugs served in child-friendly containers featuring the "Kung Fu Panda" characters. This global program continues McDonald's commitment to positive use of licensed characters.

TV Commercial Brings Fun Kung Fu To Life

The McDonald's Happy Meal "Kung Fu Panda" commercial, produced by Leo Burnett, features two child Kung Fu experts vying for the last Chicken McNugget left from a Happy Meal. The children worked with Master Yuen, a Kung Fu expert who trained under the same trainer as legendary actor and Kung Fu Master Jackie Chan, to create the commercial. Master Yuen is a well-known director and actor that has been studying Kung Fu for the past 40 years and credits his sport for teaching discipline and keeping one focused on life. The commercial is available in 23 languages. To view the commercial, visit http://www.mcdepk.com/happymeal.

About Kung Fu Panda:

Enthusiastic, big and a little clumsy, Po (Jack Black) is the biggest fan of Kung Fu around... which doesn't exactly come in handy while working every day in his family's noodle shop. Unexpectedly chosen to fulfill an ancient prophecy, Po's dreams become reality when he joins the world of kung fu and studies alongside his idols, the legendary Furious Five -- Tigress (Angelina Jolie), Crane (David Cross), Mantis (Seth Rogen), Viper (Lucy Liu) and Monkey (Jackie Chan) -- under the leadership of their guru, Master Shifu (Dustin Hoffman). But before they know it, the vengeful and treacherous snow leopard Tai Lung (Ian McShane) is headed their way, and it's up to Po to defend everyone from the oncoming threat. Can he turn his dreams of becoming a kung fu master into reality? Po puts his heart into the task, and the unlikely hero ultimately finds that his greatest weaknesses turn out to be his greatest strengths.

HP Technology Helps DreamWorks Animation's Summer Feature Kung Fu Panda Soar to New Creative

Moviegoers worldwide are sure to be delighted by the breakthrough animation achieved through the combination of HP (NYSE:HPQ) technology and DreamWorks Animation's creativity as DreamWorks Animation SKG Inc.'s (NYSE:DWA) highly anticipated summer movie, Kung Fu Panda, hits theaters today.

HP also partnered with DreamWorks Animation, Nickelodeon and McDonald's to bring Kung Fu Panda to life outside the movie theater in fun, interactive ways, including an HP "The Computer Is Personal Again" TV spot featuring Po the Panda, downloadable activities and crafts, and a choreographed "The Panda" dance that the whole family can learn.

"We've been working with HP for years to develop and implement technology that enhances our creativity," said Jeffrey Katzenberg, chief executive officer and director, DreamWorks Animation. "With the help of HP technology, our animators are now creating movies that were simply impossible to make even last year."

The technology and marketing behind the film is the latest example of the ongoing collaboration between HP and DreamWorks Animation that continuously delivers "the next big thing" in the media and entertainment industry. More information on HP and Kung Fu Panda is available at http://hp.com/kungfupanda.

"HP has always been committed to bringing innovations to market that help all types of customers unleash their creative genius, whether they are high-profile studios or everyday people," said Satjiv S. Chahil, senior vice president, Global Marketing, Personal Systems Group, HP. "By partnering with other leading consumer brands like McDonald's and Nickelodeon to tell the story of Kung Fu Panda, we can bring DreamWorks Animation's creativity to life."

HP technology behind the scenes

HP has helped DreamWorks Animation create groundbreaking animation features from Shrek to Bee Movie. For this latest project, HP technology helped animators solve artistic challenges to bring the story of Po the Panda to life. Audiences will see a wide variety of deeply intricate, organic environments that only exist because of the unprecedented power of HP workstations with multi-core processors.

HP technology allowed DreamWorks Animation to utilize the largest number of moving cameras on any of its films to date. With 400 HP workstations and the largest and most powerful render farm ever used - also powered by HP technology - DreamWorks Animation was able to take creative elements in Kung Fu Panda to new heights. In fact, the film required more than 24 million render hours - four times as many as Shrek.

Kung Fu Panda outside the theater

HP's latest commercial featuring Po the Panda is currently airing in the United States.

Nickelodeon, along with HP and DreamWorks Animation, created "The Panda" dance so kids and parents can learn to dance like the characters in the film. HP also created a wide variety of fun, downloadable projects and crafts, including 3-D characters, customizable backpack tags and puzzles.

A how-to video with step-by-step instructions to help learn the dance, along with various printable projects are featured on HP's Kung Fu Panda website, Nickelodeon's website and McDonald's website. The video also is being featured at local McDonald's restaurants and Best Buy and Circuit City retailers.

"The Panda" dance additionally will be featured for the month of June on McDonald's Global Happy Meals website and Kung Fu Panda will be on McDonald's tray liners.

On Nickelodeon's kid-friendly website, kids can create a personalized, mash-up Kung Fu Panda video that incorporates music and video, which they can share with their friends and family or post to the Kung Fu Panda Great Wall, where others can vote on their favorites.

In addition to the web experience, HP has created an HP/Kung Fu Panda Activity CD. More than 1 million discs will be distributed in retail outlets, as a gift with purchase and at a variety of consumer events. Scholastic will be distributing 100,000 educational kits to teachers across the United States and Canada. These kits will include teacher activities to help children learn about Asian culture, a "The Panda" dance how-to video, and special Kung Fu Panda ring tones and screensavers.
