Embarq To Increase Bandwidth With Ciena Platform - Zibb.com
Apr 30, 2008 (financialwire.net via COMTEX) --
April 30, 2008 (FinancialWire) Embarq (NYSE: EQ) (Current Market Cap: US$6.09 Bil.) is deploying a platform from Ciena (NASDAQ: CIEN) that adds bandwidth without the high cost of burying additional cable.
The new platform will be available in about 18 states, according to a spokesman. As businesses use applications that require increasing amounts of bandwidth, the platform enables Embarq to handle larger demands.
The move will give Embarq the ability to provide businesses with high speed data applications.
Embarq did not reveal the cost of the system used to increase bandwidth, but said that it is much less expensive than the method of burying cables is.

Embarq (EQ) NewsBite - Zibb.com
Apr 30, 2008 (Fresh Brewed Media via COMTEX) --
Embarq (NYSE: EQ) closed yesterday at $39.66. So far the stock has hit a 52-week low of $38.28 and 52-week high of $65.50. Embarq stock has been showing support around 39.03 and resistance in the 40.07 range. Technical indicators for the stock are Bearish and S&P gives EQ a neutral 3 STAR (out of 5) hold rating. For a hedged play on this stock, look at a Nov '08 35 covered call (EQ KG) for a net debit in the $34.06 area. That is also the break even stock price for this trade. This covered call has a 206 day duration, provides 14.12% downside protection and a 2.76% assigned return rate for a 4.89% annualized return rate (comparison purposes only). A lower cost hedged play for this stock would use a longer term call option in place of the covered call stock purchase. To use this strategy look at going long the EQ Jan '09 30 Call (ODE AF) and selling the Nov '08 35 call (EQ KG) for a $4.45 debit. The trade has a 206 day life and would provide 13.14% downside protection and a 12.36% assigned return rate for a 22.00% annualized return rate (for comparison purposes only). Embarq has a current annual dividend yield of 7.00%.
