Fans of Frontier Airlines - and low airfares - received a nice gift last week when Republic Airways Holdings won a bidding war for the Denver-based airline over rival Southwest. Southwest, also a low-fare carrier, would have gobbled up Frontier and sold off its planes.

Frontier Airlines today announced it will begin daily nonstop service from its hub at Denver International Airport (DEN) to both Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport (MSY) and Louisville International Airport (SDF). The SDF service will start on April 19, 2010, while the MSY service will begin June 15, 2010. Each city will have one daily nonstop flight operated by Airbus A319 aircraft.
Also today, Frontier announced it will begin the only nonstop service from Will Rogers World Airport (OKC) in Oklahoma City to two popular Florida destinations. Beginning Jan. 15, 2010, Frontier will fly nonstop flights four to five times a week between OKC and Orlando International Airport (MCO). And on Jan. 17, 2010, Frontier will fly nonstop flights two days per week between OKC and Tampa International Airport (TPA). These routes will operate seasonally using Embraer E190 aircraft.

"The arrival of three new Airbus A320 aircraft next spring allows us to expand to a growing list of destinations. In response to a forecast for significant snow in the Denver Metro area on Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2009, Frontier Airlines has put the following travel policy guidelines into place for all customers scheduled to travel on Oct. 28 and 29, 2009, who purchased tickets on or before Oct. 27, 2009:
For customers who have already started their travel, rules and restrictions regarding standard change fees, advance purchase, day or time applications, blackouts and minimum or maximum stay requirements have been waived. Origin and destination cities must remain the same. Changes must be made by midnight, Oct. 29, 2009, and travel completed by Nov. 5, 2009.
For customers who have not begun travel, they may make one change to their travel plans without a change fee. All rescheduled travel may be subject to higher fares if it does not meet the original rule or booking class.
Frontier urges those with flexibility in their travel to please consider traveling at an earlier time or date. You can check schedule availability on FrontierAirlines.com. If you are interested in traveling on an earlier flight, please call our reservations center at 1-800-432-1359 or visit the ticket counter at your departing airport. To avoid lines at the airport Frontier recommends customers check in online within 24 hours of their departure time.

Republic Airways Holdings has completed its acquisition of Frontier Airlines Holdings.
Republic Airways, which was the sponsor of Frontier's plan of reorganization, has acquired 100% of the equity in the reorganized company for $108.75 million via an auction process in Frontier's Chapter 11 bankruptcy case.
With the close of the transaction, Frontier joins Chautauqua Airlines, Midwest Airlines, Mokulele Airlines, Republic Airlines and Shuttle America as a subsidiary of Republic Airways Holdings.
