IHOP Takes Off on "RV-Style" Road Trip Across America - Zibb.com

IHOP is gearing up for an all-American summer! In celebration of its 50th birthday this July, IHOP has teamed up with Minor League Baseball(TM) for a cross-country summer road tour celebrating two American classics -- baseball and pancakes. IHOP's Discover America Road Tour will visit Minor League Baseball parks in 27 cities, and the birthday party continues at www.ihop.com with an online sweepstakes.

From May 31 through early Sept., an IHOP-branded recreational vehicle (RV) will travel more than 8,500 miles and visit 61 Minor League Baseball games around the country bringing cheer, games and giveaways. In conjunction with the Road Tour, IHOP restaurants will offer nine new pancake flavors throughout the summer, with three featured pancake flavors each month.

"Americans from New York and Louisiana to Washington and California are passionate about baseball and pancakes. As we celebrate our 50th birthday, we are bringing together the ultimate treat for our guests who love both IHOP pancakes and their local Minor League Baseball team," said Carolyn O'Keefe, IHOP's senior vice president, marketing.

IHOP baseball cards featuring all nine new pancake flavors will be distributed to fans at the games with a coupon for a "buy one, get one free" Discover America combo meal. Additionally the Most Valuable Pancake (MVP) mascot will entertain the crowd, give away t-shirts, and organize games. The first wave of the Discover America Road Tour will stop in Jacksonville, Fla., Charleston, S.C., Charlotte and Durham, N.C., Norfolk and Richmond, Va., Trenton, N.J., Pawtucket, R.I. and Toledo, Ohio.

For those IHOP fans who can't make it to the games, IHOP's 50th birthday celebration continues at www.ihop.com with the Discover America Sweepstakes where beginning June 2 fans and guests can vote for the "most valuable" pancake flavor or play state-themed trivia for a chance to win prizes. Three (3) grand prize winners will receive a weekend trip for two to New York, Los Angeles or Chicago. Additional prizes include $50 IHOP gift cards and baseball memorabilia contributed by participating Minor League Baseball clubs. The sweepstakes starts June 2, 2008 at 12:01 a.m. ET and ends September 7, 2008 at 11:59 p.m. ET. To enter the sweepstakes and view the complete rules, visit www.ihop.com. The site will also be continually updated with tour highlights as the RV makes its way across the country.

In celebration of its 50th birthday this July, IHOP invites pancake lovers across the country to Discover America with nine new state-inspired pancake flavors at IHOP. Since first opening its doors in Toluca Lake, Calif. in 1958, IHOP, one of America's favorite restaurants for breakfast, lunch and dinner, quickly became a national icon thanks to its famous buttermilk pancakes. To honor its pancake roots and American heritage, IHOP has created new pancake flavors that celebrate the country from north to south and east to west.

From June 2 through Sept. 7, IHOP restaurants will offer nine new Discover America pancake flavors, with three featured pancake flavors each month. During this same period, guests can visit www.ihop.com to enter the Discover America Sweepstakes for a chance to win various prizes, vote for their favorite Discover America pancake and play trivia games.

"Having sold millions of pancakes over the years, we know that Americans are wild about this classic breakfast treat. To celebrate our 50th birthday, we are offering scrumptious new Americana-themed pancake flavors that commemorate our proud heritage, and allow our guests across the country to celebrate with us," said Carolyn O'Keefe, IHOP's senior vice president, marketing.

Nine New Pancake Flavors Inspired by State Treats

The nine new pancake flavors coming to IHOP this summer were each inspired by some of the country's best-loved geographical treats. Tour 1, available in restaurants June 2 through June 29, boasts a line up that includes three new delicious offerings:

-- California Strawberry: Two buttermilk pancakes topped with cool
    strawberries in glaze, cream cheese icing and whipped topping;
-- Kansas Carrot Cake: Two oatmeal spice pancakes filled with diced
    Granny Smith apples, raisins, carrots, coconut, crunchy walnuts and topped
    with whipped butter and cream cheese icing;
-- Maine Blueberry: Two buttermilk pancakes filled with fresh
    blueberries, topped with whipped butter and a dusting of powdered sugar.

Tour 2 will run from June 30 through July 27 and features three new pancake flavors to tempt taste buds, including straight-talkin' New York Cheesecake, sweet-southern Georgia Praline Peach Streusel, and All-American Red, White & Blueberry.

Tour 3, which runs from July 28 through Sept. 7, will feature traditional Washington Apple Crisp, refreshing Oregon Mixed Berry and tantalizing Louisiana Bananas Foster.

Each Discover America combo starts at $4.99 and includes the guest's choice of the same two Discover America pancakes, two eggs any style and crispy hash browns, and for just a little more guests can add their favorite breakfast meat, including pork sausage links, hickory smoked bacon or ham. Pricing may vary by location. Discover America pancakes, along with all IHOP menu items, are available for takeout any time of day with IHOP 'n Go.

For more information about the Discover America state-themed pancake flavors, to enter the Discover America Sweepstakes, or to find an IHOP restaurant near you, visit www.ihop.com.
