The Oklahoma Department of Transportation (DOT) and Department of Public Safety will automate their oversize/overweight vehicle routing and permitting functions with an integrated transportation solution from Intergraph(R) and Cambridge Systematics. The automated system will streamline the permit submission, review and issuance processes for the state and motor carriers, improve the safety of oversize/overweight vehicle movements and help preserve the state's transportation infrastructure.
(Logo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20081211/DECLOGO )
"The safe and efficient permitting and routing of oversize/overweight vehicles are key components of successful DOT operations," said Jay Adams, chairman of the selection committee for oversize/overweight routing and permitting at Oklahoma DOT. "We have been working with Intergraph for several years to manage our geographic information system (GIS) and linear referencing system (LRS), as well as to geospatially power our intranet and Web portal. Due to the success of these projects, we are pleased that Intergraph has partnered with Cambridge Systematics to offer a combined, turnkey solution for oversize/overweight routing and permitting that will further boost our productivity, enhance driver safety and help manage our infrastructure."
Intergraph's automated routing solution enables DOTs to create safe oversize/overweight routing for vehicles moving through their jurisdiction, meeting the expectations of the commercial trucking industry while balancing the safety needs of the motoring public and protecting infrastructure. By combining its solution with Cambridge Systematics' permitting technology, Intergraph will offer Oklahoma a complete solution for conducting online permitting for oversize/overweight vehicles, automatically generating safe travel routes, sharing temporary changes in road conditions in real-time and logging routes for simple tracking and improved infrastructure management - all through an easy-to-use, Web-based application.
"Intergraph transportation industry solutions help ensure that people and assets move safely and efficiently across the world, and help transportation and government agencies more clearly and cost-effectively manage and protect their roadway infrastructure," said Jay Stinson, vice president of Government & Transportation for Intergraph. "Moving forward, we will continue to develop configurable, out-of-the-box solutions for DOTs - such as the oversize/overweight routing application - to enable organizations to more fully leverage geospatial data to increase efficiency and improve overall operations and safety."
Based on Intergraph GeoMedia(R) and technology from Cambridge Systematics, the new oversize/overweight routing and permitting application leverages roadway and bridge data for restrictive routing, which ensures that vehicles can pass safely. Specific functions enabled by this combined application include:
-- Online Permitting - Carriers operating oversize/overweight vehicles can
access an online permitting application to create an account, request,
pay for and receive a permit to operate. A dashboard view provides quick
access to pending permit requests.
-- Online Automated Routing - Carriers can use an online routing
application complete with mapping operations to request a route for
travel. The application uses roadway and bridge data for comparison
against the vehicle to ensure safe passage. Once a route is identified,
the routing application provides a map and detailed driving directions
for the permit document.
-- Restriction Management - The application provides authorized staff with
the ability to enter in real-time route notifications and temporary
restrictions such as accidents and lane closures that reduce a road's
capacity for handling oversize/overweight vehicles.
-- Route Logging - The system logs the approved route for each permit,
enabling staff to quickly recall all permits affected by a temporary
restriction or route closure and notify the carriers. The route logging
also enables DOT staff to track the volume and types of loads being
moved across the state for infrastructure management purposes.
Road, rail and transit agencies, as well as airports and seaports, use Intergraph transportation solutions to manage and maintain their networks, keep systems up and running and make key management decisions about work priorities and budget allocations. The Intergraph oversize/overweight routing application is offered standalone or may be combined with permitting applications from partners like Cambridge Systematics. The solution can also be integrated with existing permitting applications already in place at DOTs. HUNTSVILLE, Ala., Nov 17, 2009 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ --
The European Commission Joint Research Center has selected Intergraph(R) spatial data infrastructure (SDI) technology for a pilot implementation of INSPIRE services for monitoring the air quality in Europe. This pilot project supports the European Commission Shared Environmental Information System and is a test for the implementation of an Ambient Air Quality and Clean Air for Europe (CAFE) directive based on INSPIRE services. Once the pilot project succeeds, Intergraph will be Europe's first technology provider for supporting clean air initiatives. The project will serve as a blueprint for the larger European Air Quality Information System in the 27 European Union countries.
(Logo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20081211/DECLOGO)
"The CAFE project speaks to the rising demand for SDI technologies around the globe," said Jeff Vining, Gartner vice president and research analyst. "SDI applications provide an ideal platform for large-scale collaboration and widespread data sharing. Environmental protection is one of many areas in which SDI is becoming increasingly valuable for communicating across country boundaries to achieve a common goal."
Airborne pollution does not follow national or administrative boundaries, yet data on air quality are collected by many separate organizations within each member state. This can make it impossible to synthesize consistent and timely pictures of conditions for areas that are larger than the responsibility of a single organization, let alone at a regional level.
Intergraph's geospatially-powered SDI application ensures harmonized data exchange within the enterprise and between government, businesses and the public for improved communication, collaboration, productivity, ease of maintenance and reduced costs. The solution supports compliance with INSPIRE and other government directives that ease geospatial data sharing. For the CAFE program, Intergraph technology will record and consolidate data across all different government levels and regions of Europe for optimal air quality assessment.
"Intergraph is a long-term player in the field of SDI and INSPIRE," said Horst Harbauer, senior vice president of Intergraph Security, Government & Infrastructure in EMEA. "We have helped shape the industry, working with countless government organizations and leading the development of industry standards and initiatives. We are honored to extend our expertise into the area of air quality and support efforts that will have such a profound impact on future generations."
Intergraph serves almost every EU member state, offering its expertise and experience as a leading provider of geospatial technology. The company has participated in many other European Union-funded SDI initiatives, including GIS4EU, HUMBOLDT, eSDInet+, EURADIN and NATURE-SDIplus, further demonstrating a deep understanding of and commitment to SDI. More information on Intergraph's SDI solution can be found at: http://www.intergraph.com/govt/sdi.aspx.
