Chinese jewelry demand for platinum is poised to climb to a record level this year, but it won’t likely be enough to rescue the global market from a net supply surplus with supplies expected to grow and industrial demand set to drop, according to a report from Johnson Matthey published Tuesday.

Johnson Matthey Plc, a UK-based specialty chemicals group, has acquired the assets of Applied Utility Systems, Inc. (AUS) from Catalytic Solutions, Inc. for $8.5 million in cash plus $1.5 million subject to certain contingencies. Both AUS and Catalytic Solutions are based in the US.
AUS is a designer and supplier of selective catalytic reduction (SCR) systems for controlling emissions of oxides of nitrogen (NOx) in a range of applications.
Catalytic Solutions is engaged in the manufacture and supply of catalysts for motor vehicle (gasoline and diesel engines), energy applications (gas turbines, boilers, gensets) and petrochemical and refinery applications.
