European Commission has approved the proposed acquisition of Nortel Networks Corporation's global enterprise solutions business by Avaya, Inc.
Avaya is a US-based provider of communication systems, applications and services, while Nortel is a Canada-based provider of networking products and solutions.

Avaya has granted early termination of the antitrust waiting period under the Hart-Scott-Rodino Antitrust Improvements Act of 1976 for the proposed acquisition of Nortel's global enterprise solutions business.

Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson (Ericsson) has completed the acquisition of substantially all of CDMA business and LTE Access assets of Nortel Networks Corporation for $1,130 million on a cash and debt free basis.
Ericsson is a Sweden-based provider of telecommunications equipment and related services to mobile and fixed network operators, while Nortel is a Canada-based provider of networking products and solutions to organizations.
Under the terms of the sale, Nortel will provide transitional services to Ericsson, and Ericsson will provide products and services to Nortel in support of those CDMA customers remaining with Nortel.
Update on October 30, 2009:
Nortel has amended its previously announced asset sale agreement with Ericsson regarding the sale of substantially all of Nortel's CDMA business and LTE Access assets.
Under the amendment, Nortel and Ericsson have extended closing date to November 30, 2009. The parties expect to close the sale prior to such date. The parties agreed to the extension in order to allow more time for the satisfaction of closing conditions, including regulatory approvals.

Ericsson has entered into an asset purchase agreement to acquire substantially all of CDMA business and LTE Access assets from Nortel for $1,130 million on a cash and debt free basis. The assets are the part of Nortel's Carrier Networks division in North America.
The agreement includes CDMA contracts with North American operators such as Verizon, Sprint, US Cellular, Bell Canada, and Leap, as well as LTE assets, certain patents and patent licenses relating to CDMA and LTE.

According to Reuters, Canada's The Globe and Mail reported that Ericsson has submitted a bid to acquire the enterprise solutions business (CDMA and LTE wireless technology businesses) of Nortel for $730 million.

Ciena Corporation has received regulatory clearances regarding its proposed acquisition of substantially all of the optical networking and carrier ethernet assets of Nortel Networks Corporation's Metro Ethernet Networks (MEN) business.
In the US, Ciena has granted early termination of the antitrust waiting period under the Hart-Scott-Rodino Act. In addition, Ciena also has received from the Canadian Competition Bureau a no action letter, terminating the applicable waiting period for the proposed transaction under the competition act.
Ciena is a US-based provider of communication network infrastructure, associated software and professional services, while Nortel Networks is a Canada-based provider of networking products and solutions.

Nortel Networks has announced that it, together with its principal operating subsidiary Nortel Networks Limited and Nortel Networks Inc, entered into an amendment of its previously announced asset sale agreement with Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson regarding the sale of substantially all of Nortel's CDMA business and LTE Access assets.
