PRINCETON, N.J., Aug 25, 2009 (BUSINESS WIRE) --
Opinion Research Corporation (ORC), a leading global market research firm, will be hosting a half-day seminar titled "Unions, Employee Engagement and the Changing Workforce: How to Avoid Unions, Increase Productivity and Retain Your Top Performers Through Employee Engagement."
The seminar, which is geared for Human Resources and Organizational Development professionals, is scheduled for three convenient dates and locations in the New York metropolitan area:
-- Tuesday, September 29,( )2009 at the Williams Club in New York, NY
-- Wednesday, September 30, 2009 at the Westin Governor Morris in Morristown, NJ
-- Thursday, October 1, 2009 at the Hilton Woodbridge in Woodbridge, NJ
The seminar will be led by two experts on Labor Law and Employee Engagement, John P. Quirke of Archer & Greiner and Lisa Wojtkowiak of Opinion Research Corporation and will provide valuable information participants can use to forestall union activity in their organizations by ensuring an engaged workforce. Topics covered will include:
-- Key reasons why employees unionize
-- A union's approach to employees - and how to turn it off before it even begins
-- How proactive employer actions can keep employees engaged - and unions out
-- Spotting weaknesses in benefits packages that could drive key employees to competitors
-- How globalization is making it difficult to attract talent from overseas - and how to address it
-- Filling the education gap at work and developing a productive and loyal workforce
-- How the different generations view work--and the universal values they want from an employer-of-choice
These seminars are especially relevant to any Human Resources professionals concerned about how the proposed Employee Free Choice Act (EFCA), which could make it much easier for employees to form unions with little or no meaningful opportunity for employers to react, would affect their organizations. The sessions will also provide attendees with practical strategies to leverage employee engagement to ensure employees remain motivated and satisfied with their positions. Retention of trained and motivated employees is of increasing concern of HR professionals as the economy is expected to improve in 2010.
The cost to attend is $129 and includes continental breakfast. The event is pending approval by Human Resources Certification Institute for continuing education credits.
