Transsyberia Rally 2008, Leg 9, Oelgy - Mankhan: Porsche Team France grabs the lead - Zibb.com

Mankhan: Porsche Team France grabs the lead Team France has taken over the lead in the overall classification of the Transsyberia Rally 2008 powered by Sony Ericsson. With the second quickest time on the ninth leg, Christian Lavieille and Francois Borsotto pushed their way to the top of arguably the toughest marathon rally for near-standard offroad vehicles in their #7 Porsche Cayenne S Transsyberia. The winners of today's leg are Pablo 'Pau' Soler and Laia Peinado from Team Spain. The previous leaders, Team Middle East, were forced to retire. Pilot Said al Hajri drove into a hidden pothole and injured his spine. His co-driver Tim Trenker remained uninjured.

Pau Soler and his co-driver Laia Peinado from Spain put in an almost immaculate drive on the ninth leg. In 4:45.47 hours they conquered the extremely demanding 282 special stage kilometres. "We're naturally very pleased with today's win. In the overall classification we have made a huge leap forward and now rank fourth," said an enthusiastic Soler. "This special stage was very long and above all it was difficult to navigate. My co-driver did a fantastic job. We made a couple of minor mistakes on the first few kilometres, but around 100 kms before the end we overtook Armin Schwarz and Andi Schulz. Afterwards we held onto the lead until the end. Our Cayenne ran like clockwork today. The mechanics did a great job yesterday. I dedicate this win to the Porsche crew." Just seven minutes behind were Christian Lavieille and Francois Borsotto. Their navigation was also extremely good and the pair was ecstatic at the finish of the leg and to be leading the overall classification. Third in today's leg and now ranking third overall are Armin Schwarz and Andi Schulz from Team Germany 1. Up until the third checkpoint they had led the classification, but took a wrong turn in an obscure place. This cost the former European rally champion and the two-time Dakar winner a possible leg victory. (C) 2008 Al Bawaba (www.albawaba.com)

New Generation Porsche(R) 911 Initiative Continues With Carrera 4/4S Coupe and Cabriolet - Zibb.com

New engines, all-wheel-drive systems, transmissions, interior features and exterior cues will mark the evolutionary advances of the new 2009 Porsche 911 Carrera 4 and Carrera 4S models upon their introduction this fall when they join the already announced two-wheel-drive 2009 Porsche 911 Carrera and Carrera S.

Like the improvements to the rear-wheel-drive models, the combined changes for the Porsche 911 Carrera 4/4S will result in enhanced performance coupled with better fuel economy and reduced emissions.

The output of the 3.6 liter engine in the Porsche 911 Carrera 4 increases by 20 horsepower to 345 hp. The Porsche 911 Carrera 4S with its 3.8 liter engine is equally impressive, with an increase of 30 horsepower to 385 hp.

The revolutionary PDK works in conjunction with direct fuel injection for the flat-six engines and electronically controlled all-wheel-drive system to provide these seemingly diverse improvements to performance, fuel-economy and emissions.

The new generation of the Porsche 911 Carrera 4/4S replaces the former all-wheel drive viscous multiple-plate clutch system with a more dynamic electronically controlled PTM (Porsche Traction Management) system. This system, originally developed for the Porsche 911 Turbo and adapted for the normally aspirated variants, combines the driving pleasure typical of Porsche with a high level of driving stability, traction and agility, which is further enhanced by a (now standard) mechanical locking rear axle differential.

Standard on all versions of the new model are a proven six-speed manual transmission. As an alternative, the new Porsche 911 Carrera 4/4S are available with the Doppelkupplungsgetriebe or double-clutch, which replaces the Tiptronic S automatic transmission. The PDK offers faster gearshifts and better fuel efficiency. The PDK gearbox comes with seven gears shifting hydraulically without the slightest interruption of traction and pulling force.

The new generation of the Porsche 911 series visually stands out through discreet, but striking, modifications to the front and rear lighting. The new models come with BI-XENON(TM) headlights and new LED daytime driving lights. The redesigned rear-light clusters feature LED technology. For the first time in a 911, Porsche offers dynamic bending lights as an option, which moves in the direction the steering wheel and the car is turning.

The Porsche Carrera 4 models retain a rear muscular stance, as before, 1.73-inches wider than the two-wheel drive version. A new reflector trim bar between the LED rear lights gives the rear end of the new car even more character.

The most compelling interior upgrade is the new Porsche Communication Management (PCM) 3.0 which features a touchscreen for simplified operation of the audio system as well as the optional hard-disk-drive navigation system. Other important additions to PCM 3.0 are the new options of XM radio with XM NavTraffic capability, Bluetooth(R) connectivity, iPOD(R) port, USB port and auxiliary jack.

The 2009 Porsche 911 Carrera 4 and Carrera 4S Coupe and Cabriolet models will be introduced in the U.S. on October 25, 2008. The 911 Carrera 4 Coupe is priced at $81,700, while both the 911 Carrera 4 Cabriolet and 911 Carrera 4S Coupe are $92,300. The 911 Carrera 4S Cabriolet is $102,900.

These two subsidiaries combined, PCNA and PCC employ approximately 250 people who provide Porsche vehicles, parts, service, marketing and training for its 200 U.S. and 12 Canadian dealers. Valmet Automotive's current assembly contract with Porsche to come to an end in 2012 - Zibb.com

(Metso Corporation Press Release on June 26, 2008 at 1.00 p.m.)

Porsche AG announced today that they will not renew the current assembly contract with Valmet Automotive. Porsche's announcement is not estimated to have any short-term impact on Valmet Automotive's operations as the Uusikaupunki plant will continue to manufacture Porsche Boxsters and Caymans until 2012 as agreed in the 2004 contract. Valmet Automotive has been manufacturing Porsche Boxsters since 1997 and Porsche Caymans since 2005.

Ilpo Korhonen, President of Valmet Automotive, says that the plant has two to three years to sign a new manufacturing contract and thus to safeguard production without major breaks: "We can offer world-class production quality. Recently we have been complementing our manufacturing capabilities with consistent development of our own in-house manufacturing engineering, product development and project management services. This will improve our possibilities to win new contracts in the ongoing negotiations with other car manufacturers. Unfortunately, this time our offer did not meet Porsche's future demands."

Holger P. Haerter, Deputy Chairman of Porsche SE, and as Chief Financial Officer responsible for the allocation of commissioned production, comments: "Over the last eleven years, Valmet Automotive has built more than 200,000 sports cars of outstanding quality for us. Our decision not to continue the successful cooperation is in no way a vote against Valmet. Rather, it was the high development capacity and competence of our future partner that tipped the balance."

In 2007, the net sales of Valmet Automotive were EUR 85 million. The number of personnel is about 800. Valmet Automotive recently completed personnel negotiations resulting in fixed-time lay-offs and training of the personnel. The temporary reduction of production in the autumn mainly results from the seasonal, decreased market demand in roadster car segment.

Metso is a global engineering and technology corporation with 2007 net sales of over EUR 6 billion. Its over 27,000 employees in approximately 50 countries serve customers in the pulp and paper industry, rock and minerals processing, the energy industry and selected other industries.
