Singapore Airlines: Singapore Airlines and Tourism New Zealand sign joint marketing agreemen -

Singapore Airlines and Tourism New Zealand have signed an agreement to jointly develop and promote tourism to New Zealand on Singapore Airlines' services.

The three-year memorandum of understanding (MoU) comes into effect on 1 January 2010. Under the agreement both parties will jointly explore and implement activities to boost tourist arrivals to New Zealand via Singapore Airlines' services between Singapore and both Auckland and Christchurch. The partnership will complement the activities each party already has in place to promote New Zealand.

Singapore Airlines and Tourism New Zealand have each agreed to commit NZD$ 2 million over three years to fund joint activities. These include marketing and tourism campaigns in priority markets and familiarisation programmes for consumer media and travel agents from Singapore, China, India, the UK, Germany and France.

Singapore Airlines has deep roots in New Zealand, having established its presence in the country in 1976 with twice-weekly B707 services to Auckland via Sydney. Today, the Airline operates daily B777 flights to Christchurch and 12 times weekly flights to Auckland, which will increase to twice daily by the end of November.

"We remain steadfast in our commitment to promote the varied and wonderful tourist attractions in New Zealand to the world and this agreement reinforces that commitment. Our presence in 65 cities in 35 countries will certainly help to drive the marketing campaigns overseas and channel overseas visitors to New Zealand," said Mr Huang Cheng Eng, Singapore Airlines' Executive Vice President, Marketing & The Regions.

"Tourism New Zealand is delighted with the enhanced marketing opportunities that this agreement will provide. The proposed new activity with Singapore Airlines will significantly boost our ability to reach more travellers more often with key promotion messages and holiday offers," Tourism New Zealand Chief Executive George Hickton said.

"Singapore Airlines' network from key Asia and Europe markets offers excellent connectivity to New Zealand. The new activity we are committing to with Singapore Airlines will be aimed at boosting new booking activity at times of the year when Tourism New Zealand is running major awareness campaigns," Mr Hickton added.

About Singapore Airlines

When Singapore Airlines was formed in 1972, it operated a modest fleet of 10 aircraft to just 22 cities in 18 countries. With a commitment to fleet modernisation, product and service innovation and market leadership, the Airline quickly distinguished itself as a world-class carrier.

Today, Singapore Airlines operates a modern passenger fleet of more than 100 aircraft and its network, including Singapore Airlines Cargo and SilkAir destinations, currently covers a total of 99 destinations in 40 countries.

In October 2007, Singapore Airlines, a member of the Star Alliance, made aviation history again as the first to fly the world's largest passenger aircraft, the Airbus A380.

Singapore Airlines: Singapore Airlines to fly twice-daily to Tokyo Haneda - Zibb.com

Singapore Airlines will launch twice-daily flights between Singapore and Tokyo Haneda airport in October next year, complementing the current twice-daily Tokyo Narita services, one of which continues on to Los Angeles.

The Airline has been awarded the permit for 14 weekly flights to Tokyo Haneda by Singapore's Air Traffic Rights Committee (ATRC).

Narita has been the main international airport serving Tokyo since 1978, but new international services will be permitted to and from Haneda after a fourth runway there opens for operations next year.

Flights to both airports will provide SIA's customers with a choice of airport in Tokyo to suit their preference and convenience. Narita offers good connectivity with other international flights and accessibility by rail and road to other cities and prefectures outside the Tokyo metro area. On the other hand, Haneda has more domestic flight connections and is nearer Tokyo's business districts.

The new flights will cater for growth in demand and boost travel between Singapore and Japan for both business and tourism.

In addition to Tokyo, SIA presently serves three other Japanese cities, namely Fukuoka (five times per week), Nagoya (daily) and Osaka (daily). The Airline also has extensive code share ties with Star Alliance partner All Nippon Airways on domestic sectors in Japan, as well as international flights between and beyond Japan and Singapore.
