Talisman says has not been in talks with CNOOC - Zibb.com

Talisman Energy Inc did not approach China's CNOOC Ltd about amalgamating assets and offering shares in a joint enterprise, a spokesman at the Canadian oil company said on Monday.

"We've had no discussions with CNOOC," Talisman's Dave Mann said.

Mann was speaking in response to a report in the South China Morning Post, which said Talisman had spoken to China's third-largest oil company about a joint listing worth as much as $10 billion.

China shares lower in early trade led by financials - Zibb.com

China shares were lower in early trade as investors sold financial stocks after Lehman Brothers unveiled a restructuring plan following a 3.9 bln usd loss in the third quarter, dealers said.

Property and nonferrous metal stock were also under pressure.

At 9:53 am, the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index was down 11.08 points or 0.52 pct at 2,139.68.

China Merchants Bank (SHA 600036) was down 1.57 at 19.49 and Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC) (SHA 601398; HK 1398) fell 1.55 pct to 4.44 yuan.

China Vanke (SZA 000002; SZB 200002) fell 2.03 pct to 5.80 yuan.

Zijin Mining (SHA 601899; HK 2899), China's second largest gold miner, slid 1.0 pct to 3.97 yuan.

Wuhan Iron & Steel (SHA 600005) rose 1.0 pct to 7.09 yuan after its parent, Wuhan Iron & Steel Group announced a plan to buy up to two pct of the listed unit's issued shares from the secondary market within the next 12 months.

Hk shares open 0.2 pct higher after Lehman sale news - Zibb.com

Hong Kong shares will open 0.2 percent higher, rebounding from an 18-month closing low and tracking regional markets amid news that Lehman Brothers was in talks about a possible sale.

The benchmark Hang Seng Index is indicated to open up 44.00 points at 19,432.72.

The China Enterprises Index of top locally listed mainland Chinese firms was set to open 1.3 percent lower.

Gartmore European Investment Trust p.l.c. (the "Company")

                            Shares Held in Treasury

The Company announces that it has cancelled 500,000 shares that it previously
held in Treasury, with immediate effect. Shares are cancelled (and may be sold)
from Treasury in the same order in which they were originally repurchased.

Following this cancellation, the Company's called-up share capital falls to
32,204,149 Ordinary shares, of which 2,681,487 shares (8.33%) are held in
Treasury and have no voting rights.

Total Voting Rights

There continue to be 29,522,622 Ordinary shares in issue with full voting
rights and this is the number that should be used by holders to determine if
they are required to notify their interest in, or a change to their interest
in, the Company under the Disclosure and Transparency Rules.
