Sarance Technologies, a provider of interconnect IP technology, and Spirent Communications, have announced a licensing agreement to incorporate Sarance's high speed ethernet IP core 40G and 100G IP products in Spirent TestCenter.
The high speed ethernet IP (HSEC) is available as soft core for Virtex-5 TXT and Virtex-6 LXT FPGAs and Altera Stratix IV GT and Altera Stratix IV GX FPGAs, as well as for ASIC implementations. It has also been implemented and validated in 65nm and 40nm process technologies. The IP is delivered as a netlist targeted for the specific FPGA architecture, or as RTL code that can be implemented in any ASIC process technology.
Farhad Shafai, vice president of R&D at Sarance Technologies, said: "Sarance's 100G and 40G ethernet cores have already been licensed by networking companies and have gone through rigorous testing by passing live internet traffic.
"The adoption of the same cores by a major test equipment vendor like Spirent further validates the robustness of Sarance IP and provides the quickest path for network equipment vendors to get their products to the market. We're excited to be working with Spirent and to accelerate the deployment of 100G and 40G equipment."

Spirent C2K-ATS Test System Provides Signaling Conformance, RF Performance and Data Application Testing Capabilities
Spirent Communications plc (LSE: SPT), a global leader in wireless network, devices and applications testing, today announced that China Telecom has selected the Spirent C2K-ATS system to test mobile phones before they are offered to its subscribers. China Telecom will use the Spirent test system for parametric radio testing, signaling conformance testing, data performance testing and location-based services (LBS) testing.
(Logo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20090812/SPIRENTLOGO )
The Spirent C2K-ATS system was selected by China Telecom following an internal "bake-off" that compared solutions in several categories. China Telecom will use the Spirent C2K-ATS system to test mobile devices for compliance to industry standards as well as for application service quality.
"Poorly performing mobile devices result in more than just costly subscriber churn," said Richard Webb, principal analyst, Infonetics Research. "These devices can increase operational costs by wasting scarce network resources. Operators also bear the costs of technical resources trying to identify network issues when the problem is with the phone. Going beyond certification testing to include performance testing is critical, especially as mobile operators migrate to 3G and LTE technologies. Solutions like the C2K-ATS help operators test not only today's technologies, but they also support the migration to next-generation networks and devices."
Spirent C2K-ATS system is the de facto industry standard for CDMA and EV-DO testing. Nearly 100 percent of the CDMA and EV-DO mobile device designs deployed in the world today have been tested on this system. In addition to automated conformance testing, the single-platform multi-function tool can be tailored for mobile device design-verification testing (DVT), product integration and debugging, and the resolution of post-deployment issues by quantifying device performance in terms of RF performance, protocol issues and A-GPS performance.
"China Telecom is currently the world leader in CDMA and EV-DO subscriber growth, and is poised to deliver service to over 100 million people," said Rob VanBrunt, vice president at Spirent's Wireless Division. "It is an exciting time for all of us, and we will continue our close cooperation to ensure that our test solutions help China Telecom deliver the highest-quality service."
Spirent Communications is a global leader in the testing of CDMA mobile devices. Its automated test solutions cover physical layer, protocol layer, data performance and A-GPS location for product development, verification and deployment. This includes conformance/certification testing against industry-specified requirements and network operator acceptance testing. Spirent TestCenter(TM) HyperMetrics(TM) Validates Resiliency and Video Quality of Cisco's IP Video Service Delivery Network
Spirent Communications plc (London: SPT), a leader in network, services and device testing, successfully supported the industry's largest public IPTV test by validating the resiliency and video quality of Cisco's medianet solution. Medianet Megatest, the independent benchmarking of Cisco's IP video service delivery network equipment conducted by the European Advanced Networking Test Center AG (EANTC), demonstrated that Spirent is the foremost provider of test and measurement solutions suited to validate IP video applications and the infrastructure required to deliver large-scale multiplay offerings.
(Logo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20090812/SPIRENTLOGO )
The test bed utilized Spirent's multiplay solutions including Spirent TestCenter(TM) to validate the resiliency of Cisco's medianet solution. In addition, the test demonstrated Cisco's ability to monitor as well as maintain video quality under a variety of network conditions, including jitter, real-time loss and short term latency.
"As service providers seek to deploy large scale IPTV networks, manufacturers of network equipment are increasingly looking for flexible and proven ways to test the gear that will support these systems," said Carsten Rossenhovel, Managing Director, EANTC AG. "Spirent has been an invaluable partner in this test, emulating realistic traffic profiles required to assess the performance of multiplay networks and multi-technology platforms in an effort to ensure delivery of the highest Quality of Experience (QoE)."
This sophisticated test setup included 300 1GbE and 10GbE ports, more than 318,000 hosts and over 739,000 streams. Spirent was selected by EANTC for this Cisco medianet Megatest for its unique ability to:
- Use short term latency and real-time loss to intelligently measure the
behavior of video buffers to validate how well the video traffic will
perform in a live network
- Leverage test lab automation based on the industry leading Automation
Continuum framework to shrink test time and rapidly move through test
iterations while still measuring all key metrics in a single pass
- Deliver reporting with intelligent trend analysis to quickly analyze
key QoE metrics across large volumes of data
"We're proud to be the ongoing defacto choice for the largest and most complex public communications tests in the industry," said Tim Jefferson, general manager, Converged Core Solutions Group at Spirent. "Our involvement in this recent IPTV test solidifies our leadership position in supporting the needs of the most respected makers of next-generation communication equipment. When it comes to providing cost-effective, scalable test solutions that ensure the highest level of QoE, Spirent is the leader."
Communications industry leaders such as Cisco continually turn to Spirent to tackle their multifaceted testing needs. With its ability to deliver enhanced realism by scaling in multiple dimensions, including ports, traffic, users, and sessions, and automate testing with Spirent NoCode(TM), Spirent's suite of testing solutions enabled Cisco to assess true network performance under real-world conditions. Additionally, Spirent allowed Cisco to measure video quality, and to compare the results to Cisco's own video monitoring capabilities, helping the vendor deliver the highest QoE.
