'Telefonica launches 21 Mbps HSPA+ mobile broadband service' - Zibb.com

Telefonica has commercially launched its mobile broadband service with speeds of up to 21 Mbps for download and 5.7 Mbps for upload. The services will initially be available in the cities of Madrid and Barcelona, where the operator started to deploy its 3G network based on HSPA+ technology in April. Telefonica will offer flat-rate mobile internet tariff plans, along with a HSPA+ modem for internet traffic from a PC or laptop. The offering is currently available exclusively to corporate customers and SMEs, and starting December it will be expanded to residential users. Customers can subscribe to the Tarifa Plana Internet Maxi (Internet Maxi Flat-rate Tariff) which includes the Sierra Wireless USB 307 modem. For EUR 49 per month, the package offers unlimited internet traffic. As a service launch promotion, subscribers will receive a monthly bill discount of 50 percent during the first three months of service. Subscribers will also be able to acquire the Sierra Wireless modem for a discounted price of EUR 19. Telefonica also offers the Tarifa Plana Internet Plus (Internet Plus flat-rate tariff) for EUR 39 per month. The service supports download speeds of up to 7 Mbps and includes free data downloads of 5GB per month. Telefonica plans to expand its HSPA+ mobile broadband network throughout 2010, to all cities with over 250,000 inhabitants. Starting 2010, Telefonica will also introduce new features, handsets and devices to increase download speeds to 42 Mbps in an initial phase and then to 84 Mbps, with data transmission speeds of 11.4 Mbps.
