Trend Micro Announces Web and Messaging Security Support of Citrix NetScaler VPX - Zibb.com

Trend Micro, a global leader in Internet content security and a member of the Citrix Ready(TM) Open Networking Program, announced that its Web and Messaging security virtual appliance solutions support Citrix(R) NetScaler(R) VPX(TM), the industry's only leading application delivery and load balancing solution that is available as a virtual appliance.

Trend Micro(TM) InterScan(TM) Web Security and Trend Micro(TM) Messaging Security gateway solutions are designed to provide an effective, highly scalable and optimized solution against emerging Web and email-borne threats. Both are available as software virtual appliances for corporations that want to reduce costs, increase IT flexibility, simplify deployment and upgrades and promote business continuity. They combine a hardened operating system and application stack that can run optimally on industry standard "bare-metal" hardware, or in a virtual machine.

NetScaler VPX scales both solutions by providing load balancing and cache redirection services as well as integrated caching and consolidated logging services. This is especially important within a threat landscape where Internet-based threats are constantly evolving and compromised Web site and URLs are often obscure and short-lived. The integrated cache on the NetScaler VPX allows for caching of the responses to provide faster response times. In addition, the consolidated logging feature can be used to generate access logs for all Web requests.

"With the Citrix Ready Open Networking Program, Citrix and its partners are delivering powerful virtual networking solutions," said Sunil Potti, vice president of product management and marketing, NetScaler product group, Citrix Systems. "We are very excited that Trend Micro, a recognized security leader, has joined and that together we can deliver a fully tested, fully virtualized solution combining our market-leading NetScaler web application delivery solution with Trend Micro's web and messaging security solution."

"Citrix Netscaler VPX, in conjunction with Trend Micro Interscan Web Security and Interscan Messaging Security gateway solutions, provides a flexible, scalable architecture that can grow with traffic and application needs," said John Maddison, vice president, Trend Micro. "By supporting virtual environments, dynamic and public cloud datacenters, the combination of both solutions will considerably reduce operational costs. In addition, the Trend Micro(TM) Smart Protection Network(TM) cloud-client infrastructure provides customers of these solutions optimal online security."

Trend Micro Reports Third Quarter 2009 Results - Zibb.com

Trend Micro Incorporated (TSE: 4704), a global leader in Internet content security, announced earnings results for the third quarter 2009.

For the third quarter, Trend Micro posted consolidated net sales of 24,848 million Yen (or US $265 million, 93.58 JPY = 1USD). The company posted operating income of 8,399 million Yen (or US $89 million) and net income of 5,219 million Yen (or US $55 million) for the quarter.

In Japan, both the consumer and enterprise business units did well this quarter and experienced double-digit sales growth. In North America, consumer sales continued to grow but the region was negatively affected by a strong yen appreciation against the dollar. EMEA sales were flat when compared to the same period last year but decreased when calculated against a high exchange rate. APAC sales were hit by the strength of the yen against the local currency. Australia, in particular, did not perform well. In Latin America, Brazil experienced healthy growth but the region's overall sales growth decreased due to the effect of the yen against the local currency.

Based on information currently available to the company, consolidated net sales for the fourth quarter ending December 31, 2009 is expected to be 24,700 million Yen (or US $271 million, based on an exchange rate of 91 JPY = 1USD). Operating income and net income are expected to be 7,200 million Yen (or US $79 million) and 4,400 million Yen (or US $48 million), respectively.

"This quarter we rolled out a strong set of products designed for consumer PCs, virtual machines, Web gateway security, and Mac computers in the enterprise," said Eva Chen, CEO. "We were proud to endorse NSS Labs' testing methodologies that more accurately test what is needed to provide 'real-world' protection for users. In NSS Labs tests, the Trend Micro Smart Protection Network came out ahead, further validating our ability to provide security that fits -- fast, light, real-time protection against today's web, email and file threats."

Growth rate figures are calculated from Japanese Yen results. Some discrepancy may therefore be noted in US Dollar comparisons owing to fluctuations in currency conversion rates.

Second Quarter Business Highlights

Continuing its innovations with virtual security, Trend Micro introduced this summer Core Protection(TM) for Virtual Machines, a 'first of its kind' solution that secures VMware environments and enables enterprises to maximize the economic benefits of virtualization without compromising their datacenter.

In August, Trend Micro launched its 2010 consumer product line optimized for Microsoft Windows 7 and for delivering universal, multi-platform protection for consumers everywhere.

Trend Micro introduced a new Web Gateway Security solution that integrates with InterScan Web Security Virtual Appliance 5.0 and an Advanced Reporting and Management module for a complete solution set powered by the Trend Micro Smart Protection Network infrastructure.

In independent, non-sponsored tests by NSS Labs, both Trend Micro consumer (Trend Micro Internet Security) and enterprise (Trend Micro OfficeScan) products scored the best in malware protection. These tests also mark a significant step towards third-party anti-malware testing methodologies that better reflect today's "real-world" conditions instead of using antiquated testing techniques that don't test computers against the latest threats coming from the Internet.

Trend Micro continued to assert its leadership in Web gateway security, beating out four other competing solutions in tests conducted by Cascadia Labs. In every security category -- malware, exploits, phishing, proxies, and potentially unwanted applications -- Trend Micro posted the best score.

Research Report: Trend Micro Offers All Security Components for Virtualization Security - Zibb.com

Enterprises are adopting virtualization at a swifter pace than ever before and Trend Micro offers all functions for virtualization security, according to an independent report by Nemertes Research.

The report examines key trends surrounding virtualization, how enterprises are implementing a virtual environment in relation to their overall security infrastructure, and how the roles of compliance and Defense-in-Depth are critical parts of an enterprise's virtualization security strategy.

In the report, Nemertes Research categorizes the majority of virtualization security vendors and Trend Micro covers all functional areas, including: Host based protection, anti-malware, virtual appliance, virtual zones, virtual infrastructure protection, VM lifecycle protection, log and patch management, and configuration management. No other vendor included in the report matches all functional areas.

Over 90 percent of organizations that participate in Nemertes benchmark research are adopting virtualization," said Ted Ritter, senior research analyst at Nemertes Research. "Increasing flexibility, agility and reducing environmental footprint are primary virtualization drivers. Yet, virtualization creates two major challenges for enterprise security teams: Meeting compliance requirements and maintaining defense-in-depth. Physical security products do not address these challenges and worse, they negate much of the primary benefits of virtualization. Fully addressing these challenges requires a comprehensive virtualization security solution."

Please join Ted Ritter, senior research analyst at Nemertes Research and Harish Agastya, director of product marketing at Trend Micro as they discuss the rise of virtualization and cloud computing and the impact this is having on security best practices and next-generation security technology.
