YouTube To Mask Viewer Data To Viacom In Suit - Zibb.com
Jul 16, 2008 (financialwire.net via COMTEX) --
July 16, 2008 (FinancialWire) Media conglomerate Viacom (NYSE: VIA) won't be told the identities of individuals who watch video clips on Google's (NASDAQ: GOOG) (Current Market Cap: US$162.01 Bil.) video-sharing site YouTube during the company's copyright suit.
Viacom and other copyright holders have agreed to let YouTube mask user IDs and Internet addresses when YouTube hands over viewer ship records in a $1 billion lawsuit accusing the site of enabling copyright infringement. A federal judge ordered the database produced in a July 1 ruling widely criticized by privacy activists.
Viacom is seeking at least $1 billion in damages from Google, saying YouTube built its business by infringing copyrights on Viacom shows, which include Comedy Central's The Daily Show with Jon Stewart and Nickelodeon's SpongeBob SquarePants cartoon.
Under the agreement, YouTube can swap the user logins and IP addresses with other, presumably anonymous signifiers. YouTube has a week to propose its method.

DreamWorks close to deal with Reliance, funding split from Viacom - report - Zibb.com
LONDON, Jun 18, 2008 (Thomson Financial via COMTEX) --
Steven Spielberg's DreamWorks SKG is close to a $500-600 million deal to form a new movie venture with India's Reliance ADA Group, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing people familiar with the situation.
The deal would give Spielberg the cash to finance DreamWorks' departure from Viacom Inc.'s Paramount Pictures later this year, the newspaper added.
Reliance would get a large stake in the new company. DreamWorks would likely seek another $500 million or so in debt financing elsewhere to give the venture enough money to make about six films a year, the Journal said. tf.TFN-Europe_newsdesk@thomsonreuters.com jms
