James Walker Townson Comflex Elastomer and PTFE Flue Duct Expansion Joints Both these materials are manufactured into expansion joints using only a single layer. The elastomers usually in materials such as Viton from Dupont or Ethylene- propylene (EPDM) are constructed with layers of reinforcement of Fibreglass, wire mesh or Kevlar. Often used for difficult applications when moisture, chemicals or vibration is present in the system. The robust nature of the product allows it to be used in heavy dust load applications without the need for an internal sleeve. PTFE on the other hand is the ultimate in chemical resistance. Highly flexible, lightweight, temperature resistant to 300°c and easy to install. Both materials are stocked in different thickness, weight and have a variety of reinforcements.
