Wind will power new water plant

Sydney's new desalination plant will be powered by wind power under a 20-year contract with Capital Wind Farm. On 13 May 2008, the deal with Sydney Water will cost the company $A9 million in renewable energy certificates annually for when the desalination is idle, but almost double that cost when the plant is producing electricity. The issue of electricity industry privatisation in New South Wales continued to be politically heated at the 13 May Australian Labor Party caucus meeting.
