Five police officials stabbed to death in China

A Chinese man today stabbed five police officials to death after storming a police station in Shanghai apparently to take revenge for interrogating him on charges of cycle theft a year ago.

The 28-year-old man, surnamed Yang, set a fire outside the gate of the building, then charged into it and began stabbing officers, authorities said.

The man attacked nine officers along with a security guard with a knife, they said adding five of them died of their injuries.

A witness said some officers had chest injuries and others blood-stained faces and they were rushed to the hospital.

Yang was apprehended and detained at the scene by police, state-run Xinhua news agency reported.

Yang, hailing from Beijing, told police that he was interrogated in October last in the station after suspecting him of having stolen bicycles. He was unhappy about it and wanted to take revenge.
