For the second time in six weeks, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has been restrained from conducting the wards, local governments and state congresses in Anambra state pending the outcome of the appeal filed against the party by some aggrieved politicians.
This came as the National Chairman of PDP, Prince Vincent Ogbulafor rejected the resignation of Chief Olisa Metu as the National Vice Chairman for the southeast zone of the party.
Though, the court order is coming after some aspects of the congresses had been held
An order of the Anambra State High Court sitting in Onitsha and presided over by Justice F.C. Nwizu restrained the PDP from conducting the congresses in the state pending the appeal filed by Alphonsus Oforkee against the party.
"The court hereby grants leave to the applicant to appeal as an interested party against the judgement of the honourable court delivered on August 25 2008 in suit No.0/211: Alphonsus Oforkee vs. PDP and others," Justice Nwizu ordered , adding. "The court hereby grants leave to the applicant to appeal against the judgement of August 25 2008 in respect of suit no. 0/211/2008."
It would be recalled that Justice Nwizu had on August 25 2008 granted the prayers of the PDP to conduct the congresses in Anambra state within 30 days.
Specifically, the order from the court restrained PDP as a political party, Prince Vincent Ogbulafor, National Vice Chairman, Chief Olisa Metu and Chief Chuma Nwofor, the Anambra State Congresses Organising Committee Chairman and members of the committee.
Meanwhile, the PDP National Chairman , Prince Ogbulafor has rejected the resignation of the national vice chairman for the southeast, Olisa Metu.
According to a source in PDP, "the National Chairman rejected the resignation of Olisa Metu as the National Vice Chairman for the Southeast. The chairman told him that it was the national convention that elected him and therefore, cannot accept the resignation."
When contacted, Olisa Metu confirmed to THISDAY that the National Chairman rejected his resignation, saying, "National Chairman and members of National Working Committee (NWC) said I cannot resign."
Metu had resigned from his office as the National Vice Chairman of PDP in the Southeast in a letter dated September 2, while citing personal reasons for his action.
