Company: ICx Technologies Inc (ICXT)
ICx Transportation, a business unit of ICx Technologies, of developer of advanced sensor technologies, will manage the technology portion of a multi-million-dollar 'Bus Rapid Transit' transportation upgrade project administered by the Orange County Transportation Authority in California.
The Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA) project is the first implementation of Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) as part of OCTA's multi-billion dollar program to enhance transportation throughout Orange County.
The ICx contract includes installation of a real-time, bus-arrival passenger information system, preliminary design of a signal priority system and signal system enhancements to improve arterial operations. Arrival information for busses will be enhanced with distribution via phone and web-based technologies. ICx's work on this contract began in June 2008 and will run through 2012.
Glen Fromm, CEO of ICx Transportation, said: "We are proud to have been chosen to lead this important project. Our team has led similar programs in the past, but this marks the first time we'll do it as ICx.
"We benefit greatly from our ability to integrate various advanced sensors and to manage complex programs in security, and we will transfer that know-how to the large, intelligent transportation systems market. We believe the transportation opportunity for ICx can be as large as it is in the security arena, and our intent is to establish ICx Transportation as the partner of choice in this market."
