Schneider National Joins Forces with City of Gary to Bring 350 Jobs to Area
GARY, Ind., Apr 21, 2008 (BUSINESS WIRE) --
On Wednesday, April 30, Schneider National (a leading provider of transportation, intermodal and logistics services) and Gary Mayor Rudy Clay will host a job recruitment fair at the Genesis Convention Center, located at One Genesis Center Plaza in Gary. The event, which runs from 2 - 6 p.m., is designed provide information to those interested in learning more about the 350 new professional truck driving jobs through Schneider National available in the Gary area.
"We at Schneider National are proud to be expanding our driver network in Gary," said Grailing Jones, Schneider's national strategic sourcing director and a Gary native. "We're looking to fill a wide variety of driving positions, and we welcome experienced drivers who already hold their commercial drivers' license, as well those who are brand new to the profession."
Jones and other Schneider National recruiters will be on-site at the event to help attendees explore the truck driving profession. Trucks from the Schneider fleet will be parked outside the Genesis Convention Center for job seekers to check out. Inside, short informational sessions will be offered throughout the day so those interested can learn about Schneider National, its training and orientation programs, and the specific job opportunities available. Attendees will even be able to complete applications while at the recruitment fair.
Unlike most truckload carriers, Schneider offers both a company-provided training program for inexperienced drivers looking to enter the industry and a broad range of employment options for experienced drivers. Drivers can expect to earn an average of $40,000 - $61,000 per year, depending on experience and other factors. The newly hired drivers in the Gary area may work as solo drivers or teams. They are needed across Schneider's business segments: bulk (tanker), intermodal (truck/rail), dedicated and over-the-road (national fleet).
The event on April 30 is expected to draw more than 1,000 people. Clay will address the crowd at 4 p.m.
"I am gratified by the collaboration with Schneider National primarily because of the potential career opportunities this presents for the citizens of our city," said Clay. "This event is representative of the great works happening in Gary and is only the beginning of more job creation and employment opportunities for our community."
