Life's little escapes make Village Roadshow resilient

Australian film distribution and theme park group Village Roadshow has reported a 10% increase in net operating profit to $A62.2m. Net profit rose 470% to $A256.9m, including a $A184.7m pre-tax gain from the merger of its film production unit with Concord Music to form Village Roadshow Entertainment. Village Roadshow CEO, Graham Burke, said the company's escapist offerings meant it has been resilient during difficult economic times. Village Roadshow shares declined $A0.01 to $A1.69 on 28 August 2008.
