Cheap gas promotion draws a crowd

A promotion in Philadelphia 76-cent-a-gallon gas drew scores of thrifty motorists this week, those lucky enough to benefit from it said.

Philadelphia resident JoAnne Baker said she attended Friday's event at the Lukoil gas station to take advantage of the 76 minutes the site was offering a gallon of gasoline at historical prices, The Philadelphia Enquirer said.

"If gas keeps going up, I'm going to have to get used to walking," Baker said.

"We have bills. Food is sky high. Everything is outrageous. It's just getting so difficult for people who are just trying to survive."

The cheap gas promotion and its 76 figures were an act of support for the Philadelphia 76ers' playoff game against the Detroit Pistons that night, the Enquirer said.

But for cheap gas connoisseurs like Dean Ross, the event was a chance to avoid the typical $3.55 a gallon gas prices in the Philadelphia area.

"There's no way for me to afford to pay bills, gas and insurance. Everything is increasing except people's paychecks," the 42-year-said.
