Advanced technology increases road safety - Geveko participates in research project with the Swedish Road Administration and Lulea University of Technology
Aug 19, 2008 (Hugin via COMTEX) --
Geveko participates in a research project in cooperation with the Swedish Road Administration and Lulea University of Technology in the development of intelligent road markings. The project will continue until 2012. The principal aim is to create safer and more efficient traffic environment.
Visibility of the road marking is intensified with so called led lamps. Sensors provide road users with warnings for among others slippery roads or when overtaking.
Test area for the intelligent road markings is the E4 road between the cities Pitea and Lulea in the northern part of Sweden. The sensors will be exposed to variation in temperature, snow and ploughing.
This project is part of the research and development programme within Geveko focused on electronically controlled products to make possible vehicle-road communication. Some of the development projects based on the same technology are expected to be put on the market in 2008.
"Geveko's mission is to be a serious player in improving road safety. We eagerly look forward to further development of the intelligent road and consequently increased road safety", says Hans Ljungkvist.
