Philadelphia cop killed during robbery
PHILADELPHIA, May 3, 2008 (UPI via COMTEX) --
A Philadelphia police officer was shot and killed while attempting to stop a bank robbery Saturday morning, police say.
Police believe Sgt. Stephen Liczbinski, 40, was shot by the robbery suspects when he attempted to arrest them outside a Bank of America location in the city's Port Richmond section, CBS reported.
One fleeing suspect was shot by pursuing officers following the Liczbinski shooting. The suspect's condition had yet to be released.
The two remaining suspects, which include a female accomplice, were being sought by police and a major manhunt ws under way throughout the city.
The two suspects are considered both armed and dangerous, police say.
CBS said Liczbinski, who is survived by a wife and brother, had been promoted to the rank of sergeant last November.
