Ecolab 2Q EPS 55 cents; revenue up 15% to $1.57 billion

Ecolab Inc. Thursday said second-quarter net income rose to $139 million, or 55 cents a share, from $110.3 million, or 44 cents a share, in the year-ago period.
Adjusted earnings were 47 cents a share, in line with the mean estimate of analysts polled by Thomson Reuters.
Sales for the recent quarter rose 15% to $1.57 billion from $1.36 billion last year. Wall Street was looking for revenue of $1.54 billion.
Ecolab forecast adjusted third-quarter earnings of 53 cents to 55 cents a share. For 2008, the company sees pro forma earnings of $1.85 to $1.88 a share. Adjusted earnings, which exclude dilution from acquisitions, were forecast at $1.89 to $1.92 a share. Wall Street is looking for earnings of 55 cents a share for the third quarter and $1.88 a share for the year.
