Sports: Football: KESC overcome NBP 1-0 in PPFL

Karachi Electric Supply Corporation (KESC) overcame National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) with narrow 1-0 win in Pakistan Premier Football League at Peoples Stadium, Karachi. The first session of the tense, absorbing match failed to yield any goal between KESC and NBP. After 0-0 draw, KESC - recalled Lal Muhammad Lalo, skipper of Pakistan White in Economic Cooperation Organisation (ECO), formerly RCD Cup, at Tehran 1993 - earned another win as KESC jumped to second spot in 14-team League. Lalo who scored four goals so far for KESC in the show and had assisted in other goals showed once again his fluent quality despite returning from oblivion. He was one of the players following right wing build-up during which international spearhead Aurangzeb Shahmir rifled left-footed drive to give KESC 58th minute lead, giving keeper Amir Gul no chance.

It was sixth meeting between the two - NBP and KESC who entered the A-Division Soccer in 2005 and 2006 respectively. The previous five games saw KESC upfront with 3-2, following first leg 2-1win at Sharafi Village, Karachi on 23 July.

Currently second in 14-team table after KPT, KESC secured 19 points from ten games while NBP, who failed to maintain standardized form, collected ten points after 11 matches.

Meanwhile, current champion of National Football Challenge Cup, Pakistan Navy gave no room to Punjab Medical College (PMC) and registered facile 3-1 win at PMC Ground, Faisalabad. The seamen had full control right from the words go and their striker Sajjad Ahmed came out as hero from the field with two goals in the 8th and 90th minute.

Navy led 2-0 at interval and their other goal-getter was Muhammad Basharat in the 45th minute. PMC slotted their lone goal through winger Bashir Ahmed in the 15th minute.

PMC recorded 9 points after completion of their ten matches while Navy, who managed only seven points from seven games during tour of Chaman and Karachi, earned full three points today. The second leg will be arranged by Pakistan Navy on 2 December 2008 at Naval Complex, Islamabad.
