Bayero University, Kano (BUK) has vaccinated no fewer than 1, 000 students at its old and new campuses against the celebro-spinal meningitis (CSM) epidemic and plans to vaccinate 12, 000 students, staff and their dependants.
Director, Health Services Unit, Dr. M.S. Ado said the exercise was aimed at building a strong immunity against the scourge for members of the university community.
He said there were reported cases of an outbreak of the epidemic recently and that over the last three weeks, two cases were recorded among students living on campus and two others from staff's dependants living outside the campus.
While commending the commitment and effort of the university management to eradicating the disease, he said the institution was determined to take pro-active measures against the epidemic, and therefore
urged students to participate in the exercise, as they were more prone to the infection. The Director allayed their fears about the spread of CSM, saying the vaccination would provide adequate preventive measures against the spread of the disease.
