3Com Expands Reach in Health-Care Sector

3Com Corp. recently reported that a growing number of hospitals, health-care providers and medical device manufacturers worldwide are turning to the company for advanced networking and security solutions to enhance communications, protect confidential patient information, and help them comply with privacy regulations.

3Com said that more than a million 3Com switches and routers have been deployed by a range of health-care institutions that demand high-reliability, high-performance enterprise networking with a lower total cost of ownership that is essential in today's global economy.

Among the latest organizations to choose 3Com solutions, the company noted, are South Bend Medical Foundation in Indiana, Sarasota Memorial Hospital in Florida, and Instrumentation Laboratory in Massachusetts.

The company said that other health-care providers that have chosen 3Com solutions include:

- Covenant Health (USA)

- House Ear Institute (USA)

- North Bend Medical Centers (USA)

- Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social (Mexico)

- NHS Walsall (UK)

- Stockholm Soder Hospital (Sweden)

- Asaf Harofeh Medical Center (Israel)

- Fujian Medical University Affiliated Hospital (China)

- Qingdao Eastern Hospital (China)

"A growing number of health-care organizations are realizing the performance, security and financial benefits of deploying 3Com data-networking solutions," said Saar Gillai, senior vice president, worldwide products and solutions for 3Com. "Like most companies, health-care organizations can't tolerate network downtime or security breaches. Our portfolio is the freshest and most energy-efficient in the industry--developed within the past four years--which is why health-care and other enterprises choose high-performance 3Com products and solutions."
