Zmanda Signs On with Open Source Channel Alliance

Zmanda, a provider of open source backup and recovery software, announced that the company has joined the Open Source Channel Alliance as a charter member.

The mission of the alliance is to drive the adoption of open source software and solutions in the mid-markets. Red Hat, a provider of open source operating systems, management and middleware solutions, and Synnex, a business process services company, servicing resellers and original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), are the founding members of the Open Source Channel Alliance.

By working alongside Red Hat, Synnex and the other charter members of the Open Source Channel Alliance, Zmanda's open source backup and recovery solutions will be made available to mid-market companies through Synnex' extensive network of value-added resellers (VARs) and system integrators (SIs). By working with each of the eight charter members, Synnex is now able to offer complete open source solution packages.

Initially, two Zmanda solutions will be made available to customers through Synnex: Amanda Enterprise and Zmanda Recovery Manager for MySQL.

- Amanda Enterprise (AE) is an open source backup and recovery solution.

- Zmanda Recovery Manager (ZRM) is a solution used to automate backup and recovery of MySQL databases.

"Red Hat and Synnex selected the top open source vendors to be in this program - open source leaders that will work cooperatively to leverage the technical advantages and significant cost savings that are associated with open source solutions," said Chander Kant, chief executive officer, Zmanda. "The Open Source Channel Alliance is a major point of validation for open source providers. Now customers can easily find end-to-end open source solutions and utilize the advantages of the open source platform."

"Adoption of open source solutions, such as Amanda Enterprise and ZRM from Zmanda, makes tremendous business sense in this economy," said Roger Egan, vice president of channel sales, North America, Red Hat. "Zmanda's open source backup solutions are deeply integrated with Red Hat Enterprise Linux, and now will be available to a large network of resellers through the Open Source Channel Alliance."

"Our channel partners and their customers will benefit tremendously from the Open Source Channel Alliance because, together with the founding members, we can offer multiple end-to-end solutions in open source," said Bob Stegner, senior vice president, Marketing, North America at Synnex. "The Zmanda back-up and recovery solution set empowers VARs, SIs and the end customer with the freedom of choice without the fear of vendor lock-in."
