China Unicom User Base Rose in March

China Unicom (Hong Kong) Ltd. (NYSE: CHU, SEHK: 0762, SHSE: 600050) had had a GSM cellular service subscriber base of 137.692 million by March 31, 2009, the Chinese comprehensive telecommunications company announced in its operational statistics report filed with the Stock Exchange of Hong Kong on April 20.
In the month, China Unicom saw a net increase of 1.848 million GSM cellular service subscribers. It had reached a local access subscriber base of 109.167 million, with a net increase of 223,000 local access subscribers. It had hit a broadband subscriber base of 32.614 million, with a net increase of 927,000 broadband subscribers.
By the end of 2008, it had had a GSM cellular service subscriber base of 133.365 million. China Unicom (Hong Kong) Ltd., formerly known as China Unicom Ltd., was incorporated in Hong Kong in February 2000 and its chairman and chief executive officer is Mr. Chang Xiaobing.
