Endeca Technologies, a search applications company, and Open Text, a provider of Enterprise Content Management (ECM), have formalized partnership to deliver Endeca's Digital Asset Navigator solution on Open Text Digital Media Group's Enterprise Media Management Solution.
The companies said the joint offering is designed to provide media, publishing and retail organizations with an ability to cut costs and streamline operations by reusing existing digital assets, such as audio, video, and images that are stored in house instead of recreating or purchasing new assets.
Open Text is a supplier of enterprise Digital Asset Management solutions, offered as part of the Open Text ECM Suite. Open Text said its Digital Asset Management solutions are the choice of leading companies around the world, including BBC, Wal-Mart, Time, Paramount, HBO and Discovery Communications, among many others.
Discovery Communications, a nonfiction media company in the world, recently deployed Endeca's Digital Asset Navigator solution which provides the state-of-the-art search and Guided Navigation capabilities in Discovery Communications' Digital Media Center on top of Open Text Digital Media Group's Enterprise Digital Asset Management Solution. The Digital Media Center is a web application that stores digital assets related to Discovery productions, enabling users to search, retrieve and collaborate using digital assets for creating productions and the repurposing of content. As a result, Discovery's production teams can extract new value from their digital content investments, speed production times and reduce production costs through the access and discovery of existing video, audio and image assets.
"We have received positive user feedback from our application built on Endeca and Open Text," said David Kline, Chief Information Officer, Discovery Communications. "Discovery's digital library is one of our most valuable assets, and the breadth and quality of the collection is one of the best in the media industry. The new system allows producers and directors to find digital assets that were simply inaccessible before. It also drastically reduces search time and is a leap forward in terms of usability. As a result, we are enabling users to access our digital content more efficiently, yielding cost savings and faster decision support and content review - crucial in the media industry."
Endeca's Digital Asset Navigator combines Endeca's search, Guided Navigation and Content Spotlighting capabilities. It integrates related data from Open Text's enterprise Digital Asset Management solution, as well as databases, file servers, enterprise applications and other source systems, providing a 360-view of information relevant to digital asset reuse. The joint solution also takes advantage of Endeca's advanced security capabilities to ensure that users only have access to data they are approved to see and use, decreasing legal and compliance costs, the companies said.
"Today's media and retail firms are looking for new ways to reduce costs by making better use of existing creative instead of redesigning or purchasing it from third parties." said John Andrews, vice president, Industry Solutions for Endeca. "By combining the powerful workflow and digital asset management capabilities of Open Text media management with the search and discovery capabilities of Endeca's Digital Asset Navigator, creative personnel can gain far superior visibility into existing assets available for reuse saving tens of millions of dollars."
"The partnership announced with Endeca is notable not only for the completeness of the solution that Discovery now enjoys, but also for the solution's speed of development and flexibility which can be directly attributed to the robust set of open standard interfaces that both Open Text and Endeca support," said Damian Saccocio, VP of Product Marketing for the Open Text Digital Media Group. "We look forward to further implementations at other organizations seeking to maximize their media investments and optimize workflows."
