Vodafone Gives to Sunyani Traditional Council

Vodafone Ghana has donated an amount of GHc3,000 to the Sunyani Traditional Council, to assist in championing the alleviation of poverty, and the improvement of socio-economic conditions in the traditional area.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Vodafone Ghana, Mr. David Venn, made the donation when he paid a courtesy call at the Palace of the Paramount Chief of Sunyani, Nana Bosoma Asor Nkrawiri II, as his first visit to the Brong-Ahafo Region.

Mr. Venn noted that Vodafone's mobile network was currently recognised by industry observers and astute customers as the best quality network in Ghana, and had arrived at its current position through the execution of a planned and deliberate redevelopment and investment strategy.

According to the CEO, the same strategy was being replicated across the country, and Ghanaians in areas with Vodafone coverage in the Brong-Ahafo Region, would testify to the exceptional quality of the network.

He added that Vodafone had always maintained a special relationship with the people of the region, indicating that when no network was prepared to serve the people, GT stepped forward and provided mobile communication services to the people.

Mr. David Venn gave the assurance that Vodafone intends to deepen that special relationship with the region, by extending its coverage to several parts of the region, where the network is not available.

He mentioned that Brong-Ahafo was currently one of the regions which had access to the National Fibre Optic Cable, and consequently, immense opportunities for business, education and leisure for its people, adding that Vodafone takes immense pride in its contributions to the development of the local communities.

The CEO further disclosed that under the Access to Communications Programme, Vodafone had started deploying community SIM phone booths in rural and peri-urban communities across Ghana, to ensure that as many Ghanaians as possible, have access to telecommunication and the enhancements of life that the facility provides.

According to Mr. David Venn, Vodafone would soon launch the Vodafone Ghana Foundation, with the aim of sharing the benefits of development in mobile communications technology as widely as possible, protect the natural environment, and supporting the local communities in which its customers, employees, investors and suppliers live.

"An initial investment of GBP200,000 has already been voted for this exercise, and we shall be advertising for proposals from the public in due course," the CEO hinted.

The Paramount Chief of Sunyani, Nana Bosoma Asor Nkrawiri, thanked Vodafone for the donation, and gave the assurance to use it as expected, and would also contribute to the sustenance and growth of Vodafone Ghana in the region.
