McAfee Launches Web Security Solution as SaaS

McAfee Inc. announced availability of McAfee Web Protection Service - a software-as-a-service (SaaS) Web security solution providing protection from malware and other Web-borne threats without any on-premise requirements.

The cloud-based service offers customers Web security protection through a SaaS deployment option.

With McAfee Web Protection Service, the company noted, companies no longer have to deploy on-premise applications or gateway appliances to achieve a truly comprehensive level of security. Organizations need this protection, however many don't have the internal staff, budget, or equipment space to maintain and support on-premise components.

"Increasingly, our clients are looking to us to provide them with a variety of delivery options for receiving best-of-breed Web security," said Marc Olesen, SVP and General Manager, McAfee Software-as-a-Service. "The McAfee Web Protection Service incorporates all of the knowledge and experience we've gathered through years of proven Web security and anti-malware protection. We are leveraging our best-in-class threat intelligence delivered from the cloud and we will continue to invest and develop our core technology to keep pace with evolving security threats."

McAfee Web Protection Service is based on its Web Gateway technology (formerly known as Webwasher) and addresses all the following business issues surrounding Internet use in the workplace: security, organizational compliance, and policy control. With no applications or hardware to install or deploy, the service provides organizations with immediate and reliable Web protection.

McAfee said its Web Protection Service includes the following features:

- Reputation-based filtering: Relying on extensive knowledge of Internet entities and the constantly changing global threat landscape, the TrustedSource network enhances Web filtering by identifying potentially malicious behavior and enabling organizations to block these threats in real-time.

- Anti-Malware protection: Unlike traditional security solutions that rely only on the known viruses or signatures, McAfee's Anti-Malware protection uses several proactive, intent-based filters to stop Web 2.0 threats.

- Remote offices and user support: McAfee Web Protection Service also provides the same level of Web security for remote offices and mobile users. This enables corporate security policies to be centrally managed and enforced for all users, even when they are not behind the corporate firewall.

- Transparent user authentication: Authentication of users is transparently performed in the cloud without the use of any additional on-premise hardware or software. Security and usage permission can be automatically enforced for users based upon their specific user policies.

- Informative reports and dashboards: Informative reports and dashboards provide insight into how employees are using the Web and what threats have been derailed.

McAfee is a developer of security technologies and provider of software and hardware security solutions.
