OpenSpan Unveils Message-Enablement Solution

OpenSpan, Inc., a developer of business user productivity software, announced the enterprise messaging capabilities in the OpenSpan Platform version 4.1.

With OpenSpan, enterprises can now add bi-directional messaging capabilities to virtually any application or workflow without requiring access to, or modification of, the application's source code. With the ability to "message-enable" desktop and legacy applications, OpenSpan is allowing these applications to participate in message or event-driven architectures from companies like Software AG and TIBCO.

Many Global 2000 organizations utilize enterprise messaging along with Business Process Management (BPM) software to support specific business processes. OpenSpan's ability to allow virtually any application that a business user accesses to become message-enabled expands how organizations can gain enhanced visibility and control over business processes that require human involvement.

Using OpenSpan in conjunction with enterprise messaging allows queues to be produced and consumed and topics to be published or subscribed to directly from a user's desktop environment. This provides a mechanism for front-office / back-office integration and enables an organization to make real-time adjustments to the capabilities of different constituencies of users. Among the many processes that could be improved are process compliance, risk management, real-time up-selling and cross-selling campaigns, fraud detection and cybercrime prevention.

"Software AG is seeing an increase in the use of Event-Driven Architecture patterns from customers using webMethods ESB, Business Activity Monitoring (BAM) and our entire solution portfolio," said Miko Matsumura, chief strategist at Software AG. "OpenSpan enables us to extend the Event Stream to the desktop, providing our customers with the ability to improve productivity by interconnecting the human element with mission-critical software systems."

"As enterprises continue to move towards event-driven architectures, there is a growing need to message- and service-enable desktop and other legacy applications," said Eric Musser, CEO, OpenSpan. "Our mission is to help organizations expand their enterprise architecture solutions to the enterprise desktop environment, helping to drive business productivity improvements at all levels of the enterprise."

The Messaging adapter in OpenSpan Platform v4.1 supports messaging platforms including:

- TIBCO Enterprise Message Service

- Java Message Service (JMS)

- IBM MQ Series

- Microsoft Message Queuing (MSMQ)

OpenSpan also announced the release of the OpenSpan Platform v4.1 with support for SAP ERP applications and enhanced support for Oracle Forms, BMC Remedy, IBM Lotus Notes and Microsoft Access.

OpenSpan Platform v4.1 will be available in June, the company noted in a release.
