HBOS parent to tackle bad loans

The 2008 operating profit of HBOS Australia has declined 49% to $A402m, before abnormals such as its sale of BankWest to Commonwealth Bank of Australia. The bad result will need to be dealt with by the new owner of UK-based HBOS, Lloyds Banking Group. It will also rebrand the local division as Lloyds International Australia, and may withdraw from the Australian problem loans inherited.
