Penguin Computing Forms OEM Agreement with Applied Biosystems for Scyld ClusterWare

Penguin Computing, the leading provider of HPC cluster solutions today announced it has formed an OEM agreement with Applied Biosystems, a division of Life Technologies Corporation. Applied Biosystems, a leading provider of genomic analysis sequencing systems, will bundle the cluster management solution Scyld ClusterWare with the SOLiD(TM) System, recently named the #1 Life Science Innovation of 2008 by the Life Science industry publication The Scientist.

Scyld ClusterWare is a unique cluster management system, designed to simplify the deployment and management of Linux clusters. With Scyld ClusterWare's lightweight provisioning, a cluster can be scaled out in seconds while Scyld's Single System Image architecture ensures configuration consistency across all nodes in the cluster at all times. Scyld ClusterWare is seamlessly integrated with the SOLiD platform to execute primary and secondary analysis tasks such as image processing and sequence alignment.

"After evaluating multiple cluster management products, we chose the Scyld ClusterWare for the processing of large amounts of image data. The Scyld ClusterWare contains a robust, easy-to-use and unique Single System Image architecture, which we believe will resonate well with researchers using the SOLiD platform for a wide variety of applications," says Dr. Timothy Burcham, Senior Director of SOLiD R&D at Life Technologies.

"With Scyld ClusterWare being the only cluster management solution that has been designed for ease-of-use, manageability and robustness, Scyld is a natural fit for the SOLiD genome sequencing platform," says Penguin Computing's CEO, Charles Wuischpard. "Our partnership with Applied Biosystems offers our joint customers the best in next-generation sequencing and Linux Clustering for a solution with great price/performance and unmatched stability."
