WASHINGTON, D.C. -U.S. Senator Kay R. Hagan (D-NC) will bring together federal, state and local leaders and other experts to discuss how minority and female-owned businesses, small businesses and non-profits can access funds made available through the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act, better known as the stimulus bill. Hagan, who voted for the bill, will make opening remarks, followed by Dempsey Benton of the NC Office of Economic Recovery and Investment, Lee Cornelison of the US Small Business Administration, and David Heinen of the NC Center for Non-Profits. NC Central Chancellor Charlie Nelms will introduce Senator Hagan on his campus.
During the second half of the forum, Scott Daugherty of the Small Business Technology and Development Center, Andrea Harris of the NC Institute of Minority Economic Development, Sadie Abdullah of Operation Breakthrough Inc., Charles Archer of the North Carolina League of Municipalities and Durham City Councilman Farad Ali will participate in a roundtable discussion to answer any questions attendees may have.
